want to connect my Samsung Smart TV to My laptop Windows 10 with HDMI and it is giving Me problems

It should really be this difficult...would like to connect new Dell XPS laptop running windows 10 to Samsung SHUD TV to stream TV.

Have tried wirelessly, both on the same network

Laptop finds TV but won't connect via connection centre, TV finds laptop but does not appear as an option on the smart hub ' my content'

Have also tried an HDMI cable option - Samsung TV says 'resolution not supported' even when different resolutions are tried.
