Windows 10: want to open game bar, but win+G repeatedly asks if "want to open game bar?"

When I press win+G, there's a message that pops up asking "Do you want to open game bar?" with a button allowing me to say "yes, this is a game". I *do* want to open it, so I click the button. However, nothing happens, and if I try again, everything happens again. The game bar never actually opens.


This is only happening in one particular case. I'm playing age of empires 1 (AoE) on the latest windows 10 (as of October 2018). There's the vanilla AoE, plus a Rise of Rome expansion. If I play on the rise of rome expansion, win+G works fine; I can open the game bar and record my game. However, if I play with *just* the vanilla AoE1, then the above undesirable behavior happens.


How can I actually open the game bar without being repeatedly asked if I "want to open the game bar" with nothing happening?

As per the information, it seems that you might have pressed on Windows key + G to open Game bar. I suggest that you use the follow the steps below and check if it helps



To Turn Off Game Bar in Xbox app

1. Open the Xbox app.

2. Click/tap on the Settings icon on the left, click/tap on
Game DVR at the top, and turn off the
Record game clips and screenshots using Game DVR setting at the top.

Game bar not opening in Windows 10

Here is the OP that I am still looking for an answer to:

I'm running WIn 10 v 1703 (15063.608) on a desktop PC (Win OS on SSD, i7 4790, R9 390, 32 GB DDR3)

Windows 10 Game Bar has never worked.

I have made sure that the slider is set to On in Win 10 Settings > Gaming > Game Bar, and I set a hotkey to Ctrl + Shift + G





It still doesn't work. Using Win key +G or my Ctrl + Shift + G doesn't open the game bar. I tried opening games in Fullscreen and the Game bar doesn't open.

I followed instructions to ensure the Dword Value was set to 1 in the follwoing Registry paths:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR\AppCaptureEnabled

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore\GameDVR_Enabled

That did nothing also.

I then tried downloading and installing "Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10" from Microsoft downloads. That did nothing.

Game Bar still doesn't open.

How can I get it to open?
