  3. Windows Task Bar unresponsive

Reverting back to 7 is not possible, who would of guessed? God damn wheres the **** support for this ****!

I have also tried to use an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet and the same or similar problems arise (not being able to access the flashing or none flashing taskbar with along with the windows associated programs). I suppose the direction windows
is going, that internet is just a useless thing of the past??

Windows 11 or "9" must be the answer to the inbred thinking to windows 10. AWFUL COMPANY AND PRODUCT! thanks for the damn support want to upgrade from 8.1 to 10 ;) i feel appreciated as a customer.

Hi, before a big change which could be risky, if you are not already in the habit of creating a disk image, start doing so now. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) - option Backup Windows will automatically select all relevant Windows partitions.

Why? A disk image gives you a second chance should things go horribly wrong.

Note that major build releases of Windows (a full windows installation procedure underlies that) occur about twice a year. The latest has just been released and some are reporting teething troubles with it. Typically there will be a large update released 1-2 months after the major build. I'm waiting for that.

The News section of this site has a thread per update and upgrade. You may like to look through that- and other threads on the latest build 1709 - the Fall/ Autumn Creator's Upgrade or 'FCU'.

Check your manufacturer's compatibility list- has your PC been approved for use with Win 10. If not, it may well work.

Do some checks on yours first:
    e.g.
    Hard Disk Sentinel (trial)
    chkdsk c: /scan
or from an admin command prompt
    chkdsk c: /F

hey Dal thanks for the great info. This might be out of my league( at least the amount of time I would need to put in to do the upgrade).

The main reason I wanted to upgrade to 10 is because I can't get my passwords out of chrome anymore. I use to get prompted with a chrome window to give them my windows password(for my laptop). Now I am getting prompted by a windows security window to add my user name and windows password. I think I am putting in the correct windows user name and password but it still not allowing me access to my chrome passwords. I was hoping by installing 10 I could get all my passwords. Thanks again.

Hi, I'd say that's very unlikely. That's a feature of the program:

want to upgrade from 8.1 to 10 [IMG]

    - and as you say, you have to be logged in correctly to Google services for that.

To prepare for the upgrade and do the above once you have Macrium installed and have a suitable external storage medium is about, say, 2 hours.

You then have eliminated some very basic causes of upgrade failure, and secured yourself against your PC becoming unbootable. (Yes, things can go wrong). We recommend the routine use of disk imaging... just thinkm your disk could start to fail at any point- and I've had threads here where the user's problem is exactly that - and no images, no backups.

Upgrading- depends on download speed too.. could take an hour, maybe less.
And if it goes wrong (see this forum) could be a long job.

Further, The new Win 10 build just out is demonstrating some bugs for some people.
