wanted to multi boot win 10/11 with NVME ssd drive on an old PC with legacy BIOS

I have a Dell OptiPlex 780 that I upgraded to windows 10 pro and is working fine. Now I have an NVME ssd drive in a USB enclosure that has windows 11 pro, and I wanted to boot to it from a usb port but my BIOS will not recognize the NVME external drive. Is there a way to accomplish what am trying to do? Thx!

    :)

Following an update from Win 10 to Win 11, I can no longer boot from the M2 NVME drive.

I have an Acer desktop with a sata HDD and a m2 NVME. The boot drive is the NVME. I was requested to update from Win 10 to Win 11. Following the update the pc only boots from the HDD. In the BIOS, the NVME is seen but not in the Boot Priority. There is no option to choose it, only the Sata HDD.

What do I need to do to get the NVME recognised as a boot drive. Thanks

  3. NVME SSD

I have to enable csm and enable legacy and uefi on some boot devices. Then format the usb with mbr for both legacy and uefi. And ssd ss formatted mbr file specs not gpt.

Ssd hidden in boot menu after first restart with fresh win11

    Hello Harpreet Singh Harpreet Singh

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like your NVMe SSD is being recognized during the Windows installation process but isn't appearing in the boot menu afterward. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check BIOS Settings:
      1. Make sure your BIOS settings are configured to support NVMe drives. Sometimes, there are specific settings related to NVMe support that need to be enabled.
      2. Ensure that Secure Boot is disabled temporarily. Some systems have issues recognizing NVMe drives with Secure Boot enabled during installation.
      3. Try starting the computer in "legacy mode"

    2. Try Different Slot:

If your laptop has multiple M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs, try installing the SSD in a different slot to see if it's detected properly.
    3. Contact MSI Support:

This problem is mainly related to the motherboard and BIOS.

If none of the above steps work,

I recommend you contact MSI support for further assistance. They are more familiar with their product hardware.

They may have specific troubleshooting steps or firmware updates for your laptop model.
If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards
