Windows 10: Warning about Onedrive

Onedrive MOVES files and folders (even from other partitions) and place them in a new folder called "Onedrive" in the C: partition.


I decided to use onedrive, I figured it was a good way to store docs and files I use on several pc's and phones when out of office.


Soon after installing I was getting nagged about it beeing full. I was very surprised to see that many of my photos that were of RAW format was filling up my space, Onedrive had backed up my entire documents folder as well as many pictures.

I started deleting these files, as I dont want to have a copy of this on the net, nor in c: that is on an SSD drive.

I had all of this originally stored on partitions on HD-drives.


Here is the warning. When I had deleted these files, I learned that Microsoft did not copy my pictures and files from other partitions, they were MOVED from their original place. So I ended up deleting my original files.


I am not very happy about this, as I cant get these pictures and docs back.


I also use dropbox and google drive, and they have a much better way of implementing their system without changing the structure of private folders and settings. I feel very abused about this.

Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

I understand your concern and suggest you to Unlink OneDrive and run OneDrive setup
again and check. Here is the steps:

• 
  Right-click the white OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar.
  
  
  
  (You might need to click the Show hidden icons arrow next to the notification area to see the
  OneDrive icon.)
  
• 
  Click Settings, and then click Unlink.
  
• 
  Follow the steps in the Welcome to OneDrive wizard to set up OneDrive.
