Was your PC screwed up by this week's Wondows Updates?

Were you one of the hundreds (thousands?) whose PC has been screwed-up by the Windows Updates this week?
Heralded as fixing 36 flaws it has screwed up many many more PCs.

If you're of of those please Me Too in my thread here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...5-4a409878f789.

    Thanks

    :)

This week's Windows Updates have screwed up my NEW PC as well.

Thank you Jose. Photo removed - that security aspect hadn't occurred to me.

Edited to add: My Product ID number hasn't changed which presumably is because the change of name failed!

PS I clicked on Like and got the usual "You liked this" but when I clicked on Like in another thread earlier today it said "Your vote has been counted" - why was that?

This week's Windows Updates have screwed up my NEW PC as well.

I've decided to close my thread
about the problems with my Upgraded PC.
I can live with them for nos.

So I'm focussing on why the Windows Updates removed all of my Documents & Pictures and am hoping that Mr. Cornell will be able to help me.

Mr. Cornell - I am now in a position to install my backed-up files. Is it safe for me to do so?

And will you still want those reports from me, please?

Useful way to 'unscrew' is to take due precautions..
    - enable and use System Restore (create a scheduled task)
    - use disk imaging (3rd party) regularly.

These are even more essential with Win 10 for a good number of people experiencing difficult-to-resolve issues.

I agree - I'd just installed (and run) Reflect as suggested by Microsoft. I've had to run so many strange (for me) programs to investigate many of the Windows 10 problems that a System Restore point was created every time. And I'll make that a regular task. But don't you think it's unbelievable that a purpose-built for Win10 brand new PC has been screwed up by Windows Updates? When I created that thread I thought it was only my Upgraded PC (Win7 to Win10) that had been affected so I was horrified to later find that I've lost all of my files and folders in Documents, as well as all of my pictures.

I haven't had time to check yet but has TenForums been swamped with similar problems caused by these Windows Updates?

Perhaps my other issues https://www.tenforums.com/general-dis...rt-failed.html were linked. I've no idea.

But what really hacks me off is that I spent hours bringing those documents across to my WIn10 from my older PC with lots of help from tenforums here: https://www.tenforums.com/general-dis...iles-win7.html

Hi, strange- for some people. What I don't understand is why some people are experiencing problems with updates, start menu not working, Cortana broken, left click not working, taskbar issues...

There's no clear rhyme or reason to it.

I had 2 or 3 problems last year on my first Win 10,but nothing on 64 bit Win 10 on a 6 year old laptop, nor on a brand new custom one (with the same configuration as regards GUI mods and installed progs- near enough)

For future reference, here's how I transferred most of my 300+ installed programs and settings from 1 Win 10 laptop to my new one in about 4 hrs, + data, giving me working POP3 email, favourites, some GUI mods and most of my programs installed (many even licensed as it happened):

    1. Use disk imaging on the various partitions
    2. Run e.g. Laplink PCMover Image assistant, and mount the relevant disk image (s) of the old PC
    3. Let the transfer run for 2-3 hours.
    4. Use disk imaging to move any other data partitions.
    5. Check installed programs and reinstall/repair the few not successfully transferred
    6. Install programs Laplink reported couldn't be transferred.

This worked with C: (Windows) and all my progs initially installed on D: and was reproduced successfully.

I had a usable familiar environment. Great!

Was your PC screwed up by this week's Wondows Updates?

The two main threads in Microsoft Community
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...4-08650dce7b21 and
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...a-c4d6df0544ac
    prove you're right.

I'm no IT expert, obviously - probably 0.25 on Microsoft's scale, and so might be talking a load of conkers, but what has struck me reading hundreds and hundreds of posts is that many of those who are helping by suggesting workarounds, including Insiders, are addressing the symptoms rather than the cause. Perhaps they're not in a position to know the cause, and I've no doubt that they are trying to be helpful, but any of the workarounds that have worked either fail again the next time they power up or at the next Updates.

I posted that I wondered why none of the Moderators appeared not to be gathering data about the PCs that had been affected eg New or Updated, Operating system, product and build and perhaps even the OEM supplier. Surely this might have helped them?

And you, MrhTconeM9user, you're only the third person I know who has been unaffected. Perhaps it's your location but with good luck like that you should rush off and get a lottery ticket for tonight's £30-plus millions! And when you win, please PM me! [By the way, I can't use Edge until Norton and Microsoft resolve their differences.]

  9. -Only change I have noticed with the last update is that now Windows 10 is correctly recognizing that my Net connection through my Wi-Fi adapter is good and that I have internet access . . .
-So an improvement for me, that I hope will stay.

I was wondering is it because I have on all my system an automatic driver updater installed that monitors everything including my BIOS.
It is not free it is the paid one by Auslogic
It seems to be doing ts job ok.
Also I don't do the lottery
Pity you cant use Edge you I believe would love it

You've all made me smile a bit! Just wish Microsoft would get their act together.

I've just done an extra lottery line, hTconeM9user, so that if I win I can check out Auslogic!

    To : Taffy078,

There are just as many users who have had no issues after the " this week's" Windows updates.
As already alluded to. It is a mystery why some have issues and some don't.
    Count your lucky stars.
