Windows 10: Watchdog PNP error after system restore

I was trying to install the Windows 10 update (I've been trying all summer but keep getting error messages on completion saying there are missing or damaged files). When the updates were complete and my PC tried to restart I got a BSOD saying "Watchdog PNP Driver" and it got stuck on a restart loop. I've tried system restore (keep files) and it gives me an error at the end sayibg restore failed. I didn't have a system restore point saved and starting it in safe mode hasnt worked either. When I tried to back up to an external hard drive a few months ago it didnt work and I didnt try again, so I really really want to avoid clearing my files/doing a full restore.

I have been trying to install the April2018 Update but I get a blue screen with the Stop Code PNP DRIVER WATCHDOG. Is there a workaround?

So I tried it but after it says "preparing automatic repair" it never loads and I get the same error message: "driver pnp watchdog".
