Windows 10: Watching video content on a >=120Hz monitor with a 60Hz 2nd monitor causes stutter

Does anyone know of a workaround for this issue? I have a gaming monitor and a 2nd monitor used for guides and other stuff. Gaming monitor is 144Hz and my 2nd monitor is 60hz. There are times I would like to watch videos, YouTube and whatever. If I leave my gaming monitor on 144Hz, I get a stutter every 1-2 seconds. If I change this gaming monitor to 60Hz in my NVIDIA control panel, I do not receive stutter. The same two monitors on my mac, left at 144 Hz, does not receive stutter effect. I have a dedicated Windows 10 computer for gaming and a Mac for my work. So they are not the same computer.

Is there a setting in Windows 10 to prevent this stutter effect? Or do I just need to keep changing my refresh rate when I want to watch content on Windows?

Please fix multi-monitor stutter in Windows 10

Presently, in Windows 10 if you're running a multi-monitor setup and the monitors are not running at a multiple of or equal refresh rate the Desktop Windows Manager running behind the Explorer process causes stutter either in web video/apps (YouTube, Twitch,
Sling TV) and in games running Windowed Borderless or Windowed.

You can set a game to run Fullscreen but the stutter will still occur on the secondary monitor.

The fix: Turn my 165hz main monitor down to 120hz so it's running at a multiple of the secondary 60hz monitor.

The real fix: Revert to Windows 7 and disable Aero so you can run your hardware as it is intended to run.

The developers of Windows 10 need to do a better job of multi-monitor management. I didn't even touch the scaling incompatibilities with DPI changes if you're not running a program built on UWP - which maybe by the EoL of 2020 for Windows 7 MIGHT become
standard.

 

Borderless gaming and multiple monitors setups

Hello,

I'm having an issue with Windows 10 Home Edition when I am playing in borderless windowed.

To understand my problem and what i've found to be the "source" of it, here's my screen configuration:

- Main monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q running at 120Hz ULMB.

- Second monitor: Iiyama ProLite G2773HS running at 120Hz.

- Third monitor: Iiyama ProLite E2473HDS running at 60Hz.

So what's happening?

Everytime something happens on my 60Hz monitor, it seems that it lowers all the monitors framerates to 60Hz, causing huge stuttering in games. When I say "happens", I mean any change in the image displayed.

How did I find out that?

I usually run Teamspeak on this particular monitor, and when only Teamspeak was active on this monitor, the stutters were very irregular. As soon as I moved TS on one of the other monitors, it worked again.

I also tried Open Broadcaster Software and Chrome with the same result. With OBS it works as long as I keep the preview hidden. With Chrome it works as long as no video/ad/whatever is playing.

So here I am, unable to use this monitor while playing borderless mode, which is very frustrating because I quite like multitasking and I can't do that anymore if everytime I ALT-Tab in or out of a game it takes 5 seconds and the game is reduced in task
bar.

Is there a solution?

Can I "force" my 3rd monitor to 120Hz even if this is only a 60Hz one? This could work at least temporarily.

PC Monitor 60hz vs 120hz ???

I have another question regarding my computer's monitor:

Considering that I have a radeon 6950 and that my actual monitor is a 24 inch 1920x1080 (max) (60hz max)...

Should I get myself a computer monitor that does 120hz???

As of right now, in demanding games like Crysis, I get around 30-40 FPS when I max everything out (including AA and such...)

Would I have the same performance on a 120hz monitor???
Or should I get myself another 6950 and crossfire to see the difference?

Don't tell me about 3D... I already know that a 120hz monitor is required for this (3d blu-ray movies and future 3d games....)

But in terms of performance and FPS, what are the differences between 60hz monitors and 120hz?

Do 24inch 120hz monitors have higher resolutions then 60hz?
