Windows 10: Wave files with metadata crashing Windows 10

I'm having this problem on a new PC I just built. Anyone experience anything similar they can shed some light on?

This problem seems to only be happening when accessing the wave files from the Seagate 8TB drives. If I copy some of the files to the system drive the problem does not occur.

The system is:
AsRock Z270 Pro 4
i7 7700 4Ghz
M.2 system drive
2 x 8TB Seagate Barracuda's for data (Wave files)


When browsing WAV files with embedded metadata in Windows 10 File Explorer, metadata in the Preview Pane begins to disappear and the green reading progress indicator in the address bar comes on. This continues until restarting, after a restart browsing any other files causes no issue but selecting a WAV file starts the issue all over again. DSF and FLAC files with the same metadata do not seem to cause any trouble but they also can't be read after accessing a WAV file and Explorer can't display anything properly in the Preview Pane, at any level of the system, once one of these WAV files has been accessed.

Thanks for characterising this problem jbarsoum. I am having precisely the same problem - it is very annoying! It seems like NMM finds large numbers of files fine, but when it begins following up by reading the metadata it crashes within seconds. I don't
think it is to do with corrupt metadata.

 

Why can't I see PDF file metadata in Windows 10 file explorer?

I am not trying to ADD metadata. I want to DISPLAY the PDF Author metadata in Windows 10 File Explorer.

I have a Windows 7 machine that worked fine in this respect. I upgraded it to Windows 10. Still works fine at displaying PDF metadata.

I now have a new Windows 10 machine. Copied the same PDF files from the old Win7/10 machine into the documents directory of the new Win10 machine. (And, of course, I ran an index.) Can't see the Authors metadata either in the column display format or by
right clicking an individual file and going to Properties, because the "PDF Information" tab is missing. (Is that characteristic of Windows 10? Reduced utility?)

(Superuser points out that "Windows doesn't have native support of metadata for every filetype." But come on. PDFs??? And they can't work something out with Adobe? But I digress...)

 

Do you happen to have Quicktime player installed. Remember a while ago Quicktime was causing some issues with WAV files. Was mainly closing explorer.

Think the fix was to either remove or set a different program as default for the file types.

 

What bitrate are these wav files? I have no problem with any of my wav files up to 4800 mbps (24/96) that I store on my desktop Western Digital hard drives.
