Windows 10: wbadmin.exe Logs Folder ownership and inheritance set incorrectly

For several years, I have been backing up Windows 8, Windows 10, and now Windows 11 laptops to a central server using Task Scheduler. The script runs under the SYSTEM account on each laptop. The script creates a temporary mapped drive which allows it to access the backup folder, so that before each backup, it renumbers the existing backup folders so a multiple backup history is kept online. For example: \\Server\Folder\WindowsImageBackup\Machine \\Server\Folder\WindowsImageBackup\Machine_01 \\Server\Folder\WindowsImageBackup\Machine_02 \\Server\Folder\WindowsImageBackup\Machine_03 Then purge

Thanks, SoFine. That's an interesting idea.

I'd have to put a long Pause in it, to let the executable finish, then the next two steps would move the files and then delete the empty folder.

The more I consider it, the more I conclude that I'll just run the program (from my Tools drive) periodically, read the results, and then dump the C:\ folder. As with most things in life, it's no big deal.

Decided to try your suggestion. This worked perfectly: Log goes in the Logs folder in the same Tools drive folder as the executable, and the C:\AdwCleaner folder is deleted when it exists.

I took the initiative to leave a support ticket with Malwarebytes as below. I suggest those similarly aggrieved do likewise.

There is no user option to select the AdwCleaner log file location and all log files are dumped in C:\AdwCleaner which is inconvenient for many users. Please provide an option to select the log file location. See AdwCleaner: set to put Logs in folder with exe?

 

Ownership Issues

that will not hurt taking ownership, but I would also then look in the list of users on the ownership page and make sure your user account name is there with full permissions. Probably not.

even though you take ownership of an item, you may not be in the list of users with permissions.

first select disable inheritance, then select "ADD" in the list of users, and add your user account the same way you took ownership and select full permissions.

Then administrators may only have select permissions in the list. so after you disable inheritance, delete admins user. then select add again and select admins in the list and select full permissions
