Windows 10: WD External Drives will not stop reading when not using them

My WD external drives when plugged into this computer will have non-stop activity which can be noticed by a constant blinking light, even with my brand new empty 5TB external hard drive that was just purchased today. When I eject and plug them into another machine, the problem does not exist. Both machines use the same OS Windows 11. I have used external hard drives for many years and never experienced such a problem before. How can I get to the bottom of this? My Task Manager shows very little disk activity, and I don't know how to check what programs are reading a specific drive. Much th

• Do you get any error message?
• How are you connecting your External Drive to your computer?

I suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by following the steps provided below:

• Type “Troubleshooting” in search box and press Enter.
• Click on “View all” on the top left pane.
• Click on "Hardware and Devices" from the list and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.

Windows 10 not finding WD passport external hard drive
