Windows 10: Wdtv Live no longer seeing Network shares

I used to be able to play my videos through network shares with my WDTV Live HD Media player. I installed Plex media server on the computer that contains my media . With that installed I seem to have lost my network shares function with WDTV Live. However I can play the files on WDTV Live via the DLNA function enabled within Plex media server. I am trying to get my network shares function back again but I dont know how. I have enabled Smb1 in all windows 10 computers but that does not help . Windows shares does work because I can see and play the files from other computers on the local network. Its just that the WDTV Live device cannot see the Windows shares. All computers list the WDTV Live as media player. BTW all Sharing options are properly configured . Any ideas? Tks

Trying to list my WDTV player as computer in my network

The one laptop is an Asus K55A, the other is an Acer Aspire V3-574T.

I am not sure it really matters on what model laptop they are. They would show the Western Digital TV Live box listed as computer, under network in Windows Explorer when I had Windows 8.1 as the OS.

It seems more of a Windows 10 configuration problem because the WDTV Live box is no longer showing up as part of the network. No settings on the WDTV box have been changed.

The WDTV box is hard wired to my network router and I am on the same network using my laptops so they are all connected to my domain network.

I am not receiving an error message. The media box just isn't on my network anymore.

Can't log on from a remote device (WDTV)

My PC is running up-to-date Windows 10 Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.900)
My PC has just arrived and is having network problems.
I have a WDTV Live device for remote streaming of videos.
My PC can see the WDTV on the network and can load files from it.
The WDTV needs to be in a WORKGROUP, so I have added this to my PC.
The WDTV can see the PC, but requires a username and password to access the PC. I then get a message on the WDTV device that the username and password are not valid.
Usually, when things go wrong in linking the WDTV, the fault lies with the networking set-up on the PC.
Can anyone suggest a solution, please.
I have already tried making my cat a user with a short password to cut down on typing, but that didn't work either.

A quick update on file sharing / local network for Windows 10 v1803 (^ perhaps later Insider builds?):

I followed those easy steps to change the two listed network discovery Services to "Automatic" (were set to "Manual" in v1803) and rebooted. Now file sharing between W10 & W7 works perfectly !!

You might want to try it to see if it fixes your Win10/WDTV issue. Best of luck
