We are facing an issue with Serial COM Port RS232 PCI not working when using Windows 11 for workwe tried multiple drivers but serial comport is not working properly.

Some of my findings on this issue.

I have found the same issues with some old computers with On-board / Integrated Serial Ports.

Even searching for the VEN/DEV databases is a hit or miss affair.

Some of my findings,.... lets say one finds the corresponding match but it wont install.

Most if not many times it seems that this relates to a much Newer Operating System being installed ( win 7/8.1/10 ) that no longer uses this and no longer supports it.

I could be wrong, ... but i believe these PCI Serial Ports pre-date the era of Vista going back to the old Serial Port Printers and Devices.

Not having it wont or should not affect ones computer unless one is trying to attach and run one of these older devices.

It may be more of a annoyance factor as it shows up with the Exclamation Mark beside it in the Device Manager.

As with one of my decade old systems all i could do was Disable it as any of the Drivers that i located would not work or even install on some Windows 7 OS`s or Win 10.

Any ideas are welcome as it is a issue that has caught me out at times as well.

Two of my older systems i have just Disabled the PCI Serial Port in Device Manager as they did not have a switch in the BIOS in relation to PCI Serial Port to be able to turn off / disable.

If your computer came with a serial port built into it (pretty rare these days), go to the support site of your computer's manufacturer, enter the identifying information about your specific model (probably the serial number), and look for the driver for
the serial port.

If you have difficulty doing the above, please provide the make and model of your computer (and its serial number).

If you installed an add-on PCI card for the serial port, what is the make and model of that PCI card?

Otherwise, right-click on that entry in Device Manager and select the "Details" tab.

Select "Hardware Ids" in the drop-down list under "Property"

Copy the first line in the "Values" box and paste into a Google search.

If you get no hits when searching for the entire first line, search only for the VEN/DEV information.

Using the screenshot below as an example:

Search for PCI\VEN_14F1&DEV_10B4&SUBSYS_9300141D&REV_89

If no hits, search for PCI\VEN_14F1&DEV_10B4

Alternatively, you can use one of these PCI VEN/DEV databases:

http://pci-ids.ucw.cz/

Find unknown devices using a vendor and device ID. | Device Hunt

Once you know the manufacturer and model of the serial port, you should be able to find the driver for it. If at all possible, avoid third-party driver download sites. Look for the website of the device manufacturer.

If your computer is working satisfactorily now, I suggest not changing your operating system. Similarly, I'd leave the serial port issue alone.

I don't know why the AMD video card didn't work properly after the driver was successfully installed. The only reasons I can think of that might connect the failure of the video card and the failure of the serial port would be some issue with the PCI slot
itself or possibly with the chipset driver. Again, however, if your system is currently working satisfactorily, I wouldn't suggest experimenting by randomly installing drivers.

In my opinion, if your current system isn't performing satisfactorily, your best solution would be to buy a new computer with Windows 10 pre-installed. The hardware will be up to date, the proper drivers will be installed, and you should end up with a better
experience.
