Windows 10: We have a Microsoft Webcam that sometimes works in group sessions and sometimes states the...

We have a Microsoft Webcam that when we check through the app appears to be working correctly. Sometimes it does,. but in larger groups it states the 'cannot use camera device due to hardware error'. I have gone through the various suggestions on the help and google searches but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions, or any perhaps recommendations for a webcam that's been reliable for them? We are using Windows 11 and have Norton security. Many thanks.

Do Microsoft webcams have on/off switch? During this Covid19 shutdown, many of the groups I belong to are using Zoom and other software to hold meetings and my PC does not have a camera or microphone. I have windows 10 and and HP tower desktop and want
to participate in these on-line group sessions. Are the Microsoft webcams easy to install and set up and do they have an off/on switch so I can turn it off when it is not in use.

I am 81 years old and not great with technology.

Any help and suggestions will be appreciated.

Since you mentioned that you already reinstalled the driver for your webcam, we suggest that you perform these troubleshooting steps to resolve your concern:

• Run the troubleshooter for Windows apps.
• Install the driver using the compatibility mode.

My Webcam is not working with Microsoft Teams

Hi Antonio,

I have gone into settings as you said.

Microsoft Teams is listed under 'Some desktop apps might not appear in the following list or are not affected by this setting' which comes under the 'Allow desktop apps to access your camera'.

The Webcam works with the following apps: -

Windows Camera app

Skype (from Microsoft)

Zoom

I have checked that my Kaspersky software and it is allowing access by Teams to the Webcam. I uninstalled the Webcam driver and then reinstalled it.

As the Webcam works with all other apps then I believe it must be the interaction with Teams and my Webcam.

Please advise next steps please.
