Windows 10: We have Windows 7 so will we be able to bypass Windows 10 early 2020?

Two systems in the household. Windows 7 system that came with a Windows 10 disc that can be installed any time in the future which will allow this system to stay with 10 until 2025.
The other system has Windows 7 on a system built in 2011.
This one should be able to jump from 7 to ??

Custom ringtones will be included in the MANGO update, which will be available sometime this Fall.

 

I believe the free Seven to Ten upgrade still works and gives a valid license and so there is no reason not to upgrade (or clean install) to W10 on your second system imo.

Make a disk image first using something like Macrium and you can always put things back exactly as they were if you either don't like it or hit unresolvable snags (unlikely).

Nobody knows what will happen as W10 progresses and what future developments will occur although W10 should continue to work (even if unsupported) into the future.

 

Sorry I did not mention that the first system was a Windows 10 when built by Dell. It was downgraded to a 7 because of the demand to sell Windows 7 systems with the same system specs.
So the disc inside is not a full version. It only lets the user switch from 7 to 10 with no other programs or disc, etc.

The other system which was sold around 2011 has a 2011 version of 7. Are you saying the July date to switch for free is still valid?

 

The free upgrade is still available. If you want a simple upgrade use the media creation tool to create a bootable USB. Once created, navigate to USB and type setup. It will do its best to save all apps, files etc. Mooly made an excellent point, use Macrium Reflect to give yourself a backup / restore option. When I say it will do its best there are somethings that came from the vendor of device that might not work. Be advise old software my not be supported like Office 2003.

Windows 7 will be fully supported until January 2020.

 

We do have Office 2007 which is compatible with 10. Not sure how long we will be able to use Office 2007.

I would run showkey plus on that system and see if there is a product key for Windows stored in BIOS/UEFI and what OS the product key (if there is one) is for.
