  1. Weak and frightning UX for OneDrive sync after a Windows Restoration

Hello, More as a suggestion, than a question. I was almost desperate after I restored my Windows and Synched OneDrive files. I was undecided whether to use Chrome or Edge, and almost opted for the Microsoft solution, but I gave up after the problem I had due to desperation and stress the problem caused.Well, when we intend to format or reset an OS, it's a common behavior to ensure some data won't be lost. So, I transferred some important files to my OneDrive drive, but I made a mistake, my OneDrive was already full. Shouldn't have done that. Because when u choose to restore and keep personal f

  2. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

OneDrive Placeholders are coming back, now called On-Demand Sync

"At Ignite 2016, Microsoft has just announced that it is bringing Placeholders back to OneDrive on Windows 10. Now, they are not called Placeholders anymore — Microsoft is renaming the feature to “On-Demand Sync” which makes a lot more sense than “Placeholders”.

The company demoed this feature at Microsoft Ignite today, and it works just like it used to previously. As you can see in the screenshot above, the files stored in OneDrive weighed in around 9GB, but the actual size on disk was only around 3MB which is really neat. Of course, this feature isn’t anything new as it was available back in the Windows 8 days. However, Microsoft removed the feature with Windows 10, and after lots of waiting, they are finally coming back.

In case you are not familiar with OneDrive Placeholders, it’s a pretty neat feature which lets you see all of your OneDrive files on your computer — but they are not actually downloaded on your PC. When you open them, OneDrive will download the files on-demand, saving your local space which is really useful, especially if you have a PC that doesn’t have a lot of storage.

While Microsoft didn’t announce when exactly On-Demand Sync will be available to OneDrive users, we suspect it will be available with Windows 10 Redstone 2 — which is expected to arrive early next year.

How do you fix OneDrive after a Windows Restore?

I believe restoring Windows to a restore point turns OneDrive into a mass of confusion. Someone please correct me if that's wrong.

Otherwise, I'd appreciate step-by-step instructions on what to do in OneDrive after restoring Windows to an earlier restore point.

It makes sense that Windows restore and OneDrive would conflict. If someone does a restore, he might not want OneDrive to automatically reestablish the problem that led him to restore Windows.

I gather from sad experience (not from any documentation I've been able to find) that after a Windows Restore, all changed files that were syncing with OneDrive before the restore are permanently decoupled from OneDrive sync. They restored files remain
in the local OneDrive seen with File Explorer. File Explorer shows them as syncing. But they will never sync. The newer OneDrive online files cannot be downloaded directly to the desired local OneDrive folder. The problems are not self-correcting. There
are no obvious warnings or file labels that tell a user that he needs to do something to rectify the problem. OneDrive shows perpetual syncing that never finishes. And the OneDrive online versions of affected files cannot be opened with File Explorer. Changes
made to the local files are not synced up to OneDrive Online.

I'm pretty sure there must be a set a steps that, if followed, will prevent or correct all these problems.
