Windows 10: Webcam pass through RDP

Hi,

connecting to a Windows Server 2019 RDS Host the locally connected “Microsoft LifeCam Cinema” webcam is not always passed through. I’ve tried with 6 different Windows 10 computers:



- 3 Windows 10 Pro computers: The webcam is passed through if I activate it with RemoteFX. The computer symbol in the top bar next to the signal strength bars is displayed. Without RemoteFX it’s not working: It says the webcam is used by another application when I test it with webcamtests.com

- 3 Windows 10 Home: The webcam is not passed through. The computer symbol in the top bar next to the signal strength bars is not displayed. It says also the webcam is used by another application when I test it with webcamtests.com



Is there a way to get this working also with Windows 10 Home?

Nested Webcam RDP Redirection

Hello,

I have created a VM on my Windows 10 machine and have been able to RDP into the VM and my hardware webcam passes into the VM through RDP well. The camera shows up in the VM Device Manager as 'Remote Desktop Camera devices' > 'HOST-PC - HD WebCam'.

Next, on the VM that I am RDP'd into, I open another remote desktop connection to another external PC. I am able to connect to this PC by RDP fine, but the Webcam object does not pass through from the VM to the external PC. When I check in the Remote Desktop
Connection options, under the Local Resources tab, and click on 'More', I do not see the 'HOST-PC - HD WebCam' device listed under Video capture devices on the VM, even though it is listed in Device Manager.

Is there a way to get Windows to treat this redirected camera as a local camera so that it can be further redirected to a third machine?

Another way to ask my essential question - can you pass a camera through multiple nested RDP sessions?

Since you mentioned that you already reinstalled the driver for your webcam, we suggest that you perform these troubleshooting steps to resolve your concern:

• Run the troubleshooter for Windows apps.
• Install the driver using the compatibility mode.

Webcam had disappeared

Hi,

The webcam may have stopped working due to hardware failure, or a loose cable that connects it to the device’s motherboard. We suggest that you try to show hidden devices in
Device Manager by following these steps:

• Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
• Click on the View tab and select Show hidden devices.
  

If you are seeing the webcam drivers, uninstall them. Then restart your device to check if Windows will be able to recognize the webcam and will install the drivers.
