Windows 10: Weird characters in search results: is this an indicator of compromise?

Greetings,I was recently going to set up a VM with VirtualBox, but discovered I hadn't installed VirtualBox yet. However, the start button search results were rather intriguing, and I am curious if anyone has seen this before, or knows the origin of the behavior. I suspect it could be an indicator of compromise, but maybe I just have odd settings or an error somewhere. Thoughts?

• Are you getting any results even you can only type 2-3 characters?
• Is the Search suggestions working?
• What happen when you exceeded 3 characters?

"Chinese Characters" program delaying shutdown - a different approach.

• As you have mentioned this happens only in the Admin account, is it local account set as admin account or the Microsoft account?

I would suggest you to check the all apps list and check if that Chinese character app is present.

After you try the above steps and share us the results what happens we can proceed with the further suggestions.

Disable Web Search Results in Windows 10 Start Menu

Disabling web results in the search box depends on the version and build of your Windows 10. We suggest checking the Windows 10 version and build installed on your computer. To check the version and build, follow the steps below:

• On Cortana search, type winver and press
  Enter.
• A pop-up box will appear containing the version and build of your operating system.

Meanwhile, you can try these steps on how to disable web results in the search box:

• Click the search box in the taskbar.
• Select the Notebook icon

• Click Settings from the list.
• In the Settings page, turn off the Cortana can give you suggestions, ideas, reminders, alerts and more option.
• Also, turn off the Search online and include web results option.
