Windows 10: Weird edge related thing opens in my default browser--no-startup-window%20--edge-reporting-task

Randomly and whenever I turn on my PC a new tab will be opened in whatever my default browser is for this: https://--no-startup-window%20--edge-reporting-task/ A quick google seems to suggest it is related to edge and these are flags that edge would read except they don't get sent to edge it tries to open it in chrome. Does anyone know how I can prevent this, or which program calls this so i can investigate further?

I have been using Microsoft Edge since I upgraded to Windows 10 and being Canadian I have had it set to www.msn.ca/en-ca.

Yesterday was downloading a document and the next thing I know Goggle Chrome has taken over as default browser and I can't get rid of it. Now I don't have my favorites etc.

When I do try to open Edge broswer the window comes up blank and then disappears from the screen. I have gone thru all the know to get it straightened out but to no avail.

Can anyone suggest steps that I can take?

I would suggest you to try restarting Microsoft Edge Browser and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps:

  Open task manager right click on Microsoft Edge and go to details click on microsoftedgeCP.exe and click end task

MS Edge not listed in default browsers

I wrote this above, but maybe you didn't see it:

Go to Control Panel/Default Programs. Then click, "Set your default programs". I find that the easiest way to get to Control Panel is to right-click on the Start button of your taskbar, find Control Panel in the list, then click it. Once the Control Panel
opens, find Default Programs. Open that (double-click it, for most people). Then click, "Set your default programs".

Once there, wait. It likely will take a number of seconds to populate the list for you. (It takes mine a good ten seconds, and my computer isn't that old.) Once the list opens, you should find both Internet Explorer and Microsoft
Edge in the list.

Now click on Microsoft Edge. On the right it will give you two choices:

• Set this program as default
• Choose defaults for this program

Many different things have need of a browser in order to run. If you want to choose which things use Edge, which things use IE, and which things use some other browser, then
Choose defaults for this program (of course, you'd have to go to the other browsers and do the same for them). If you want to keep things simple, just choose
Set this program as default.
