Windows 10: Weird pop up claiming to be microsoft, was it microsoft?

I just received a pop up that said my computer was hacked and all my files including my social security was in danger. There was a support number that I dialed, and the caller was very shady so I hung up on him. The number was 1844681-3838. Was this actually microsoft?

  Click on settings.

  Click on View Advanced Settings.

  There you will be able to manage Pop ups.

  If you don’t want then you will be able to turn on/off.

Microsoft Edge claims its updating but never does

I've fixed it now by repairing Microsoft Edge. It'll keep all your existing data (eg. history, bookmarks, extensions) so you shouldn't have to worry about your data being lost.

 

A pop up shows it is from Microsoft

Today I also received a similar pop up claiming to be from Microsoft, but the phone number that it listed to call is 888-558-6598. Is there a way to prevent these pop ups from occurring?
