So, every once in a while I see powershell flashing on the screen. It just opens real quick and closes right after. It's so fast I can't even react to it. Now that I was playing a game I was thrown to desktop game went paused and I guess the powershell soft-crashed since it didn't close, but it "works normally" afaik task manager can see. I can't see the powershell UI at all so I can't analyze what it's supposed to be doing, but I could see it in task manager using 2.4Gb RAM. I created a DMP file out of it, but I don't know if that's any useful and after a while the ram usage went down to 14

    :)

    Weird PowerShell behavior

Nothing weird on the event logs though. Dmp file returned clr.dll, related to .net framework. At this point, nothing is pointing us specifically to why that PS is popping up. But let's start with what we got from the dmp file. It is possible that this is a system file corruption and maybe windows is trying to fix itself. So let's try to clear that out first.

    Please run these DISM commands:

-Open cmd.exe with Run as Administrator

-Copy and paste these commands one at a time

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    DISM.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

-Restart when all the above is complete and test

    ----------

If that is still popping up, let's do a clean boot.

    -Win + R

    -Type: msconfig <Enter>

    -Go to Services tab

-Check/Tick Hide all MS service (lower left) (VERY IMPORTANT)

    -Click Disable All

    -Hit Ok

    -Restart computer

    ----------

If the same results, run the device in safe mode and observe.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sta....

    ----------

If it still does not in safe mode, run an in-place repair.

Please follow these steps for the windows repair:

    1. Go to this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

    2. Click "Download Tool Now" button under "Create Windows 10 installation media". Once download is done. Run it.

    3. Leave it under "Upgrade This PC now" and then click NEXT.

    4. The app will start downloading the Win 10 installer along with the latest updates.

    5. Once done with the download you will have the "Install Windows 10" and "Keep personal files and apps" CHECKED, leave it CHECKED.

    6. Click INSTALL. Wait for the installation to finish.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if the suggestion works or not. If the suggestion did not work for you, please keep the thread open so we can have other experts join in and share their ideas. Thank you!

    Best Regards,

PowerShell instead of Commandline in Creators Update

Interestingly enough my personal laptop just got the update...and still has Command Prompt listed, not PowerShell...

Edit: Not that it matters...I use both regularly. *Toast :toast:

Thanks for reply. Here are the files you wanted. I also added the dump file just in case since reliability history didn't show anything unexpected for today. There were two hardware failures tho, so I added the screenshots from those. The powershell opens few times a day. Just happened right before posting this. The powershell dump is rar file and it went from 2.6Gb to 80mb by compression. Just so you know.

    Here's the link to the files;
