Windows 10: Weird win 10 home behaviour

Hello,


here is a screenshot of my mom's computer


it's a brand new HP laptop; she had it for 1 month, and recently symptoms appeared while she did not change any settings


from time to time :


- one cannot click on start anymore, it does not do anything, everything else works,we have to use the mag. glass to search for programs


- then after a short while, the whole screen freezes; she has toforcibly restart the computer with the power button


it started doing this while a weird feature appeared out of nowhere some sort of win 8 UNDEMANDED c@#%p !!!!


- a weird overlay covers the desktop, it has icons on it

- one cannot click the desktop anymore

- it is impossible to shrink applications, they always appear full screen

- WINDOWS_KEY+M does not bring back to the desktop

- the list goes on and on


I am 30 years IT veteran an engineer, I use Win 7 @ home, and Win 10 pro @ work,I never encountered such a UX breaking feature


I tried:


- going into win setting, fiddling with what I could find, but nothing apart from theauto snap feature that I disabled

- replacing the AV from Avast to TotalAV + complete scan ->no virus found

- I scanned the disk -> no issue


I am out of ideas, and not really familiar with win 10 home


questions:


- how do I remove that feature ?

- is there a bug fixing update or something ?

- also, how do I remove that stupid left list on the side ? I just want to see the start menu as I click on it, nothing fancy on the screen


anyone can tell me how to fix this ?

Windows 10, weird behaviour

I suggest you to update all the windows updates and install all the latest drivers.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

  Press Windows Key and type troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Click Troubleshooting. Click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows.
  
• 
  Click next, select Not Listed. Click Next.
  
• 
  Click Browse and select the installer that you downloaded using the link above.
  
• 
  Click next, click Troubleshoot program.
  
• 
  Check The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run now box.
  
• 
  Click next, select the last known working operating system for this driver.
  

For Blue screen Error i suggest you to refer the article below and check if it helps.

For Visual Studio.

I suggest you to install the Visual Studio in compatibility mode and check if it helps.

Follow the steps below on how to install software in compatibility mode:

1. Download the software from the manufacturer’s website and save it on your local disk.

2. Right click on the setup file of the software and select “Properties”.

3. Select “Compatibility” Tab.

4. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select operating system from the drop down list.

5. Let the software install and then check the functionality.

Hibernating laptop changes to sleep behaviour after Windows 10 May 2019 update

Thank you for your reply. I have tried the two steps (turning of Hybrid sleep and Fast startup) you suggested but to no avail. Okay, for your two questions:

1. My laptop is a HP Pavilion 14-bf101tx, and currently running Windows 10 1903 (upgrading from 1809).
2. Nope. No error messages. I suppose the boot process was successful, however, my battery was reduced. That's why I suggest the post title as "Hibernating changes to sleep behaviour" because the battery level reduction looks like sleep behaviour.

Please inform me of any diagnostics information you might need. Thank you for your kind assistance.

 

Win 10 Pro erratic strange behaviour

Win 10 Pro v1703 OSB 15063.296 all app and software drivers are current.

Tablet mode is disabled = "always ask before switching"

Only a complete restart helps, and sometimes win 10 works as expected for a few hours, then the erratic behaviour comes back.

Login and after sitting idle 30min:

• Desktop icons some lose their text.
• LM click + drag on any desktop icon = duplicate icon
• RM = no menu
• Typing into web browser = open random menu
