  1. Weirdness with Windows 10 DNS

So here is my situation, I have a workstation that is sitting behind a firewall that creates an IPSec tunnel back to the corporate HQ. Normally what we do with these machines is the following:

We will have 3 DNS serves first two are internal corporate DNS servers the third will be an external server on the internet.

Reason for this is following, if the tunnel goes down for what ever reason we can do a remote session to trouble shoot not only the PC but the firewall also.

This worked fine and well with windows 7 but now with windows 10 if we add the external DNS server it will not resolve internal hosts. As soon as I remove the external DNS IP and restart, it will resolve the internal hosts.

So I am thinking that it no longer takes the DNS servers in order of the list? Maybe it is trying them all at once and then taking the response of the fastest DNS server? What are your thoughts?

  2. Windows 10 DNS leak

No, went with a different 3rd party suggestion. Works better. I'm reliant on others for my tech needs that way.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    DNS problems with router

A couple suggestions I have for you:

Update the firmware on the router. Maybe it's getting into a badstate, and a firmware update might fix it. Or if you're comfortable with it, install a custom firmware like dd-wrt. Just make sure its supported on your router first.

Change your DNS to: 8.8.8.8, 4.2.2.1. Might help.

If none of these work, maybe statically set your DNS on your PS3/PC to the IPs you listed, taking the router out of the lookup procedure.

Last option, is look for a new router.
