    Startup Programs

Hi TechNow, please follow these steps to minimize your Startup processes . . .

    1.

Turn off all unnecessary startup applications and processes:

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager

    Click on the Startup Tab

See any non-essential items are listed there

If so, select and click 'Disable'

    Close Task Manager

    2.

Click your Start Button, type msconfig and hit Enter

When the System Configuration dialog opens, click on the Services Tab

Check the box marked 'Hide Microsoft Services'

In the remaining list, see any non-essential items are listed there, uncheck any you find

    Click Apply and OK

    3.

Turn off all unnecessary Background Apps

    Open the Settings App

Go to Privacy - Background Apps

Turn off any App you do not need running in the background

    Restart your PC

  3. Virus or something that disables many things

from your run command, type msconfig, and look at your startup items. Look for things that look suspicious. (You can opt to have it not list system services) try disabling a given suspicious item for boot, if it solves the problem, msconfig will provide the items location, and you can go delete it yourself.

Went in to msconfig to disable non essential startup items and now cant log in to windows...

New strange item in startup: KernelFaultCheck???

You can disable it in msconfig.Type in msconfig in the RUN box, then hit ok. Once that opens, go to the Startup tab at top. look through the list for the "dumprep.exe".

Dont think it is malicious just used for debugging I think.Could be related to your other problems, drivers etc.
