Windows 10: What a mess upgrade to win 10 pro

I have three machines 2 with win 7 pro and one with win 8.1 pro, the 2 win pro have tried to upgrade to win 10 pro today ( I live in Europe) the HP DESKTOP HPE 1075 UK has tried to upgrade and has failed with the following error
Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Installation date: ‎28/‎07/‎2015 20:27
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 80240020
Update type: Important
Install the next version of Windows.

I will send the Toshiba laptop error new win 8.1 pro on separate mail not to confuse issue

Windows 10 is being prepped for installation on your computer at this time. It is not ready yet, so you might see some errors, ignore them. The download will be available sometime throughout tomorrow and you will be notified of its availability.

What happens when I reserve?

When you reserve, you can confirm your device is compatible with Windows 10. Between reservation and when your upgrade is ready, the files you need for the upgrade will be downloaded to your PC to make the final installation go more quickly. Then, when your
upgrade is ready after July 29, 2015, you get a notification that lets you get started with your upgrade.

I have HP HPE 1075uk with win 7 pro and the machine decided to download upgrade to win 10 pro and then tried to install with the following error.

if as someone point out just maybe the error is being made by the date being 28 and not 29 why did Microsoft ensure the software does not try and install. Just hopefully this is correct I pray it will be ok tomorrow will that be west time morning time or
euro time for people in euroland

Looks like all Win 10 upgrades are failing from what I see. I suspect they will not succeed until the 29th (my guess).

 

I have tried with the new Toshiba laptop win 8.1 pro same error as the above, I have 3 failed under update history is there anyway of removing the listing or if I remember its all or nothing should I just wait till tomorrow and hopefully everything will be ok .
When Microsoft say 29th is that west coast morning or will Europe be updated our morning time. I hope this will be ok.

 

I wouldn't doubt it, that MS has some type of time codes built in to prevent anyone upgrading before 07-29.

 

Yes I have came up with same error you had, I'm running windows 7 pro with i5 processor if you find a fix please let us know.

 

there is a fix; its called "patience"
let your system update itself with out your intervention..

 

That may well be the answer but I wonder why the update is being continually tried if it is not a starter yet? Mine has failed 5 times so far.

For a process that shouldn't be creating anxiety, this is not a good start. It's not that I am in a hurry, I just find these errors unsettling, especially as I support a few people and am expecting calls I can't answer.

Yes you are right . It is same here with me without any intervention..

 

Patience is one thing. It's quite another to be offered a link to "Get help with error 80240020" that actually gives you no such thing. Worse, any independent searching for this error code turns up nothing. Why reference error codes that have no fix? It's just frustrating...in that time-honoured Microsoft Way. It's hardly the user's fault that they raise expectations so high, then fail to deliver *Tongue

 

I have (well, HAD) Windows 7 Professional, and my notice to upgrade came up about 7 PM Eastern Time. My upgrade went painlessly, all is working well, and my 5 year old custom built PC acts almost brand new. I assume I got an early notice due to being a Windows Insider on the "fast ring".

 

Hi there. Did you try a reboot?

 

What this error means is, your Windows 10 installation folder is unfinished and/or corrupted. Now, how do you fix that?
1. Go into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything in that folder.
2. Now, run the command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".
3. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start re-downloading from scratch, hopefully without flaws this time.

Tried that - did nothing. Fell back on the install from ISO. Would have done this ages ago but wanted to see how the standard update would go. Now I know!
