Windows 10: What a PROPER start menu should look like

kind of not a full start menu but you can go down to the taskabr and right click it and open toolbars /add new toolbar and direct it to the loacation of start programs .
mine is found here , C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, if you do create one it will lok like this .

You click your mouse in the lower left hand part of the screen and the search box appears at the TOP of the list, so now you have to look up at the top as you type so you can then look down again to see the results. My eyes get tired just thinking about it.

I think it makes much more sense to keep the search near the point where your eyes are already at, which is at the bottom, instead of having to search for it somewhere in the middle of your screen.

Have you ever seen an eye-tracking heat map study? They use a laser to determine where you look most frequently. In any eye-tracking study I've seen, users almost always look either directly in the middle of the screen or towards the corners of the screen right away, their attention is drawn to the edges and corners as if to "gain their bearings". These are why these areas are so valuable for advertising. But, the left and right center edges? not so much... and that's where you want to put the search?

As an (albeit self-observed) example, Most users don't even notice the picture icon in Windows 7, and they don't even realize they can click on it to change it. Why would you expect placing a search box there would draw any more attention?

 

Agreed, the search bar is fine where it is, I for one rarely use it.
