    What A Scam

I updated my windows 10 last night and had no problems getting online this morning. After running some errands, I returned and attempted to go online and got a message stating that my network was deemed unsafe by Microsoft and I needed to fix it before I could be granted Internet access. There was a phone number available to contact Microsoft for assistance, and I called and talked to a customer service representative, and he stated that during the update I performed last night, a Trojan had infected my network. He then said this was a common problem people were experiencing while performing the update and went on trying to sell me a Trojan removal program for $149 a year. I was stunned! I did not purchase this program and now I don't have Internet access. What can I do to fix this problem? Thank you in advance.

    :)

  2. what to do after a phone scam?

Just got a call from "Windows" team reporting that there are multiple users to my account. They verified my computer info (IP). What should I do to protect my computer going forward?

    What A Scam

This is a well known scam from India and isn't the official Microsoft help service. Where did you get your update or original copy of Windows from? You say you did not purchase Windows, did it come with the computer?

I upgraded to Windows 10 when it first became available and it indicated an update was available for download last night before I went to bed. I purchased the desktop computer about 2 years ago and it came pre-installed with Windows 8.1

  7. The scammer most likely had access to your computer. The scammer was using the Trojan to control it. They will typically use TeamViewer so they can "fix" your computer but they're actually doing something else on their side.

    What A Scam

I would suggest downloading Kyhi's WinPESE rescue media and booting your system to it. (Of course, you'll need access to another computer to do this.) On there is Malwarebytes Antimalware and you can run a scan on your system to get control back.

Normally, the way these work, there is a minor infection which holds your system ransom until you call the number and buy their wares, and let them remote in to "fix" things. There usually isn't anything terribly bad on the system at this point, until you let them remote in. But, since they're telling you that you don't have internet access, sounds like nothing bad has happened yet. The Malwarebytes scan from Kyhi's boot media should get rid of the infection so you can get back to your computer and finish the cleanup.

A system restore to a time before they interacted with your PC might even work, provided there's not a password prompt in place.
