What are some of the Default folders in my D: drive and should I bother backing them up?

My original SSD C: drive got bricked a while ago and then I reinstalled windows 10 on a new, larger SSD. However, my HDD data drive D: drive was left perfectly intact and I simply reinserted it into my laptop and could access all my old files just fine.

I just wanted to know if I should bother keeping the following folders, because I am not sure whether or not they were connected to the original installation of Windows on the original SSD which was removed, or if I should keep them for the sake of the new SSD with the new installation of Windows 10. Dunno if it matters, but the original OS was Windows 10 Home, while the new installation is Windows 10 Education

Some of these folders are completely empty, and others I don't even have access to anymore even as Administrator.

    • D:\SoftwareDistribution\DeliveryOptimization 0 KB
    • D:\DeliveryOptimization\Cache 2 GB
    • D:\Program Files\ModifiableWindowsApps 0 KB
    • D:\WindowsApps 0 KB, unable to access
    • D:\WpSystem 80.0 KB, unable to access subfolders
    • D:\WUDownloadCache 0 KB
    • msdia80.dll is another file I found on the root of my D:, should I back it up too?

I should also note I am using robocopy to back up my files to an external drive, which I know isn't a real ~backup~, just a copy. If I were to use an actual backup software like Macrium or whatever, would the above items be essential for the data drive backup?

    Thanks for reading!

    :)

Turned Hard Drive into Music folder

    • Create a folder on the D drive and name it 'Music'
    • Move all the files and folders that should be in the Music folder into this new folder
    • Then in Quick Access, right click the Windows Music Library, select Properties
    • Then on the location Tab, set its location to the new 'Music' folder
    • When asked if you want to merge contents - Select 'No'
    • Click 'Apply' and 'OK'

If you want you can leave the music folder on the D Drive, or you can then click 'Restore Default' to move it back onto the C Drive

If needs be for the Documents folder, you can perform the same operation by creating a new Documents folder on the D Drive

NOTE: the important step is (5) do not merge the contents . . .

    Duplicate D:\ drive

So my issue appears to be fixed and I did not end up having to format my D:\ drive.

What I did was click on the File Properties for the D:\ (with the Videos icon), not the one that is my DATA (D: ) which is the proper one, clicked on restore default location, said NO to the merge, then another window came up (which I think I might have said
Yes to originally, which could be the original source of my problem - I know, this problem is a result of user error

) and I said Yes (after fully reading it and understanding it this time. The second
message is as follows (please ignore the name and the fact that it's to OneDrive, I obtained the picture from

Access Denied - moving Pictures folder to default or other locations - Windows 10 Forums
but the rest of the wording is what I saw).

This seemed to disconnect (or what ever the heck was happening) the two listed D: drives. DATA (D: ) is normal. I still had D:\ with the videos icon kicking around. I made attempts to include this in the C:\User\...\Videos folder and then ended up with sub
folders. Not EXACTLY sure where in the process of what I did fixed it, but at one point I closed the File Explorer window and when I reopened it everything was back to normal.

Normal DATA (D: ), Normal Videos folder in the proper location and no subfolder, and no random D:\ drive with the Videos icon. Did a full shut down and restart and everything is looking as it should!

No formatting of the D: drive either, so that's a bonus!

Thanks for the suggestion though, it was definitely my next step if I wasn't able to fix it otherwise.

    D drive

    Hi,

Based on the details you have provided us, it appears that there might be some corrupted contents on the said partition. We can also consider that this is caused by a virus.

For us to check if a certain virus is hiding your files, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Type Command prompt in the search bar.
    • Type-in the following command:

      attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
    • Press Enter to execute the command.

If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.

You can follow the steps below to start with the process:

    • Click on the File Explorer.
    • Select This PC.
    • Right-click on your D drive, then click on Format.
    • Follow the on-screen process to finish formatting the partition.

Let us know how it goes so that we can further assist you.
