  1. What do I do if my permissions and security are all messed up and I keep getting errors...

So I was using my PC and I was asked by a program called HidHide to restart so it could update. It needed to update a few different times in a row and afterwards I wasn't able to write anything to my C: drive which was a 5 y/o Western Digital WD_BLACK 1TB NVME SSD. This drive also acted as my boot drive. I had assumed that it was in the fail safe "read only" state, so I picked up a new 1TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD and used the Samsung Magician software to clone the drive.I had no clue the software would clone it's issues as well. When I try to copy anything to the C: drive, it comes up with this err

  2. Restore Security Permissions

    Hello Deepak,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have cancelled the security permissions while setting it to folders and you are trying to restore back. We will help you.

      tab.

  3. No permissions

    Hi,

I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
folder with your username and follow these steps:

    • Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
    • Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
    • Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.

    Permissions Mess

    Hello,Rafisher1

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

From your description, I understand that you are unable to manipulate files or folders in a specific folder, there is an error with Replace Sub Permissions, and you currently still need to click Administrator permissions to do so.

We can first try to give each system user permissions for the folder you currently need to use.

    1. Right-click on the folder, select "Properties", select the "Security" tab in the pop-up box, and click "Advanced".
    2. Click the "Change" option next to the owner and type everyone in the "Enter who to select" box.
    3. Check "Replace owners of subcontainers and objects" and "Replace all subobject permission items with permission items that can be inherited from this object" and click "OK".
    4. Go back to the "Security" tab, click "Edit > Add", enter everyone, and then check the "Full Control" permission.

Then you can check whether this folder can be accessed normally. If it still doesn't work, don't worry, we also have other solutions, because your problem is related to system permission confusion, we suggest you to post this thread to Microsoft Learn where there are experts in this field who can provide you with more specific solutions, you can share this thread to Microsoft Learn so that they can understand your problem better and have common sense solutions. You can share this thread with Microsoft Learn so that they have a better understanding of your problem and common sense solutions.

After you refer to the above steps, you can share some information in this thread and I will answer your questions further. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
