    What does DirectX12 Ultimate mean for projects made with DirectX12 API?


    Hello to the person who is reading this, I hope you are safe and sound and that everything is okay due to the current events.


    I have recently read about DirectX12 Ultimate being announced :

    Now, after reading the article I got really hyped up, so I searched around for more information around theDirectX Dev Blog and saw this article:

    I was confused at first after reading it because I as a person who likes to experiment with new technology saw a link to the samples of the new API, but the link https://github.com/Microsoft/DirectX-Graphics-Samples reached into a GitHub master branch which I already knew since way before DirectX12 Ultimate got announced.


    So I'm pretty confused right now since basically, I thought that the announcement of DirectX12 Ultimate would mean changing already existing DirectX12 code. So, what does DirectX12 Ultimate API actually change for the programmer side? Does it only signify that a computer/graphics card is able of using the newest features i.e: ray-tracing?


    Also I'm not sure in which category this belongs to, so I posted this in the "Gaming on Windows 10" one since it seems as the most logical choice.
