Windows 10: What does Drive Optimization mean?

I noticed under Drive Tools that both my drives are scheduled for Weekly Drive Optimization.

I have a SSD, C:\, and a HDD, D:\.

Defrag is not recommended for SSD's, but Drive Optimization isn't Defined.

Does anybody know what Drive Optimization means in Win 10?

Win 10 Disk Optimization program doesn't work.

After the Anniversary upgrade, Disk Optimization does not optimize per it's schedule. My C Drive is an SSD, my Data D: Drive is an HDD. the HDD optimizes automatically, as per the schedule. The C: Drive does not. It just says "OK" and the date it last
optimized. Also, "Analyze" is greyed out for the SSD, so I can't analyze. It is not greyed out for the D: HDD.

Can someone explain what is happening?

when i run the disk optimization see that there is a system drive that needs optimization but no matter what the optimization do not run on this drive???

 

This is Microsoft's definition of Drive Optimization, from a Win 8 page:

No matter which type of drive your PC uses, Windows automatically chooses the optimization that's right for your drive.Be default, Optimize Drives, previously called Disk Defragmenter, runs automatically on a weekly schedule. The question is, will Win 10 Defrag my SSD?
The approve statement says Windows will do what's best for the Drive Type.

Optimize Drives will only defrag a HDD, and only TRIM a SSD. *Smile
