Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.257.1365.0) stuck on Status: Installing - 0%

Windows 10 Pro, all up to date, except:

For a few days now, Automatic Updates has been stuck on:

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.257.1365.0)

Status: Installing - 0%

It has downloaded and installed a couple others in the mean time, but still goes back to the same one, apparently downloading, but failing to progress past 0% for installation.

Of course, I have rebooted, and tried again, with same results.

I got nearly the same error but with another Definition KB2267602 (Definition 1.223.314.0)

In my case, there are much more services offline than only defender. Don't know if it is critical, but when reading how the services are called, I m not sure:

• ... Defender Network Inspection Service
• ... Encryption Provider Host Service
• ... Error Reporting Service
• ... Event Collector
• ...

Furthermore I also received a "Virus" message from Windows 10 which disappeared again.

latest definition for defender stuck downloading 0

There's a 1.285.440.0 out now. Three of my machines (all 1809, x64 Pro, x64 Home and x86 Home) are stuck at 0% on that one too.

However, an 1803 machine downloaded 1.285.440.0 without a problem.



Edit: The odd thing is, despite showing 0% downloaded, after a Restart two out of the three 1809 machines now say that 1.285.440.0 installed successfully. The third fails to download or install the definitions update, either in windows update or by checking in Defender itself.
