  1. What gives Microsoft or Windows the right to modify my computer without my permission?...

I would appreciate if someone could answer this question. On multiple occasions, either Microsoft365 formerly Office365 or Windows have automatically downloaded and installed updates on my computer. I do realize I can pause these updates...for 7 days. But if I am not mistaken, I purchased this computer from Amazon and neither Microsoft or Windows contributed anything to reduce the cost of my purchase. Therefore, WHAT GIVES THEM THE RIGHT TO ADD, CHANGE, MODIFY OR DELETE ANYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH MY COMPUTER????? I'm sure they have crossed all the "t's" and dotted all the "i's" to enable

    :)

    How to give permissions?

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We will need the following information to help you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps:

    • When you say, “how to give permissions” do you receive any error regarding permissions?
    • Are you trying to provide permissions to a file, folder or drive?

In the meantime, you may refer the article
"Access Denied" or other errors when you access or work with files and folders in Windows
    and check if that helps.

Note: The above article is for Windows 8 however, holds good for Windows 10.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

    Regards,

  3. How to give permission to the folders on Windows 10

    Hi,

This issue may arise when the guest or the other users have the permission to access the files. We will assist you to resolve the issue.

Please follow the below steps and check if you had given full control to the guest account that you had created.

    1. In Windows Explorer,
right-click the file or folder you want to work with.

    2. From the pop-up menu, select
Properties, and then in the Properties dialog box click the
    Security tab
    .

    3. In the Name list box, select the
user, contact, computer, or group whose permissions you want to view. If the permissions are dimmed, it means the permissions are inherited from a parent object.

    4. Click on the
Edit button as you wish to modify the user permissions

    5. Another window of the permissions of the selected folder will arrive on the screen. Here, under the
Group or user names segment, choose the account for which you want to carry out the changes. Then look for the
Permissions segment where you will find a list of permissions along with two boxes,
allow and deny. Give or withdraw permissions for each operation by choosing the access or deny checkboxes. Once finished, click
    Apply and Ok buttons.

Hope the information provided helps to resolve the issue. Please do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

  4. What gives Microsoft or Windows the right to modify my computer without my permission?...

    No permissions

    Hi,

I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
folder with your username and follow these steps:

    • Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
    • Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
    • Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.
