    I registered here just to thanks parhamsan, the fix worked like a charm and my icons are not white anymore. I didn't need to open any file to take effect. Thanks a lot for the fix.

    parhamsan, your instructions worked PERFECTLY! I was able to address the "tif" and "tiff" icon issues using your new fix. So all my image icons are now displaying correctly. Thank you so much for your quick, smart, and very-easy-to-understand help! By the way, I never had the issue you mentioned where you wrote: "Now you might face an issue before reaching step 8...." I just restarted my machine after each registry fix and the tif icons appeared correctly. Thank you again!

    dbott, i'm glad it worked for you. The issue happened on my PC but not on my laptop, but just wanted to mention it in the forum for the people getting the same error message "Cannot edit ProgId: Error writing the value's new contents" so they can use the extra steps to fix the issue.
