Hi everyone who read this post, I have a question about selecting the power mode for battery usage. If I choose the power mode is "High Performance" or "Ultra Performance", maybe the age for battery is decreased or is it hot? And should I select "High" or "Ultra" performance?

    High performance power mode

    Hi Lexxye,

This is Wil, one of the independent advisor, an expert with Windows 10 and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I understand your concern about High-performance power mode.

It is safe to use High-Performance mode on Windows 10. High-performance mode means that Windows 10 will optimize your computer to perform better but will use more energy. It doesn't mean that it will overwork your computer that will cause damage to your computer. The only thing that you would have to worry about High-performance is that it requires more energy which means that it will drain your battery faster if you are using a laptop and you are not connected to the AC power.

I hope the information I provided will help you. If you need further assistance please do reply back and I will respond as quickly as possible. Have a nice day.

    Thanks,

    Wilfred P.

Please help PC throttles like crazy on battery power high performance

So i gave it a go:

    1. when you do disable turbo (i am on battery mode), with BD ticked: goes instantly to 1.58 ghz (that would be my stock 1.60ghz) and stable like a rock, flat.

    2. same thing but with the BD flag UNTICKED > it goes to 1.80 Ghz

on the TPL window - base from point 2 above so we start from disable turbo and BD prochot ON (default setting):1. Ok level 0 basically no change. with bench running we are at 1.50 ghz - 1.60ghz

    2. level 1 - this jumped straight to turtle mode, 0.70 - 0.80 ghz and unusable basically What happened when I choose the power mode is "High" or "Ultra" Performance for Battery... :)

    3 level 2 - this goes back to 1.65 - 1.80

it seems CPU - z reads the values better. All in all i can see that now if i remove the block on turbo, that's when the BD prochot kicks in, as it can maintain speeds with disable turbo, but as soon as i put it back on, so unchecked turbo, then it goes to panic mode and drops to 0.60

actually it went up to 2.8 ghz and then down

So at least we can see that it'r the turbo the issue, if it's disabled, with the BD prochot on, it can still work fine. ahhhh weird stuff!

according to CPU z the TDP is always on 15W in any setting (i had it side to side). and also i didnt get the wattage that you mentioned when switching to the various modes. it's either 4.7W or 7W and CPU z always reads 15W. odd.

this is turbo on, BD off and bench

now the W goes up to 15W

currently i was a bit low batt around 16% everything was done in high performance and "best performance" so no battery saving.

In addition to that, Throttlestop crashed a few times, when removing AC or coming back to sleep . *Sad i have version 9.2 but i just put 9.2.9

and finally, i was running undervolt -0.100

    thanks,Gabrio

Some more weirdness...and i throw this in the mix:

Since 1.5 years this laptop always flashed the lock screen when going onto sleep, i was annoyed by it but sort of lived with it, couldn't really fix it in any way.

Well since this debacle with the new battery, i noticed something consistent.

With turbo mode on, (so i have NO BD PROCHOT), and press sleep, then the lock screen flashes then sleep - which in theory is NOT OK

If instead i disable turbo and I let BD PROCHOT on, so i am in stock mode, the lock screen does not flash, and it just goes to sleep as it SHOULD DO.

Also with the TDP (0,1,2) if i click sleep it does not flash lock screen (correct), but always with no turbo mode on.

hence the question, is the turbo mode really doing something wrong??????

    High Idle power consumption

    Hi,

A laptop in idle still drains the battery. It can be one of the lists below are the reasons why your discharging faster.

    • The power plan is on High-Performance. It consumes more energy because it maximizes the computer's usage. Toggle it as Balanced by going to Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options.
    • Too many background applications running. We can check this by going to Windows Settings > System > Battery saver > Battery usage by app. You can set adjust the settings of your battery there as well. Also, please follow the tips on the window on how you
      can manage your battery.
    • You use the second graphics card as your display to an external monitor.
    • Using sleep mode instead of hibernate mode. Hibernate mode is advisable to use when stepping away from the device for very long.

In addition to this, you can run the automatic troubleshooter to
find and fix problems with your computer's power settings to conserve power and extend battery life
    .

Feel free to post back if you need further help.
