Windows 10: What happened with the latest update...really messed up my computer

I was prompted to install the latest updates for W 11 on 18 January 2025. They are KB5050009 and KB5049622. When I returned to the computer the next day, my desktop was no longer in its customized appearance, the taskbar had lost the items that I had kept there for the last couple of years, the "non-Microsoft" default apps that I had set had all been changed to Microsoft stuff and I am sure that as I continue to use my device I will find more things that have been changed or deleted. Latest update has messed with my dual monitors

Help! The automatic updates happened a few days ago and since then my dual monitors are completely messed up. Now they are just a duplicate of each other, instead of working independently and the whole display has changed, it's stretched and looks like a
computer in the 80's. I'm not particularly tech-savvy and don't know what to do. It's horrible! A previous update also messed up my monitors but only in the respect that it wouldn't recognise the second monitor at all, I had to manually extend it each time
until a following patch fixed it. But now this latest one has really messed my screens up. I don't get why this keeps happening, driving me nuts! And at such a mad time of year... please help! Thanks

The issue that you're experiencing usually happens if the latest driver installed encountered an issue with the system. We would like to know the following to isolate the issue:

• From where did you download the latest update for your driver?
• Is it from your manufacturer's website or from Windows update?
• Have you tried using the older version of the driver?

As an initial troubleshooting, we suggest uninstalling the latest driver using the steps below:

• Open Cortana.
• Search Device Manager and click it.
• Expand the Display Adapter section.
• Find the Display card Driver.
• Right click the Display card Driver and select Uninstall.
• Select the check box delete the driver software for this device.
• Afterwards, restart the computer. Restarting the computer usually reinstall the generic driver from Windows update.
