Windows 10: what happens if i uninstall "Realtek Audio Driver" from "Apps & Features" or "Programs and...

will i lose all sound on my device or will i just lose the features?

Can't uninstall Realtek Audio Drivers


any audio driver such as realtek should be un-installed through the Programs and Features control panel or the Sound, video and game controllers section of Device Manager, not the Audio inputs and outputs section of Device Manager.

if you are removing the realtek audio drivers thru Device Manager, expand the Sound, video and game controllers section, right-click on Realtek High Definition Audio, choose Uninstall AND check the checkbox that says "Delete the driver software for this device" (which is the most important step). Then restart the computer to complete the uninstallation.

I had the realtek error when using the installer, so I did these step and It Worked

1.Go Open up device manager
2. Go under sound,video, and game controllers
3. Find Realtek High Definition Audio
4. Right click and hit update driver
5. Browse my computer for driver software
6. Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
7. Click Have Disk and hit browse
8. Click on the Realtek HD Audio mod folder and look for win64
9. Click on the HDXRT4 and click ok,
10. Click Next and Yes
After it is done, restart the PC

You should be good then and also make sure before doing these steps that you have driver enforcement disabled.

 

Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

Okay I can see now that HP Audio Control does appear to be part of the Realtek audio driver. I can see that by right clicking HP audio control from the list of programs in start menu and then click "more", "open file location"... this takes me to the shortcut, and then from there right click it and open file location and the location is the Realtek folder. It's in C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA

When this folder opens the actual file highlighted is the RTKngui64 icon which appears to be the exe file for the Realtek program/driver.

Added: as well, the shortcuts target is: "C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA\RtkNGUI64.exe" /LAUNCH_BY_STARTMENU

I wonder if I can liberate HP Audio program from the Realtek driver by uninstalling it via its program listing in start menu or through Settings/Apps (nope) or if it will uninstall the whole realtek driver. If I can liberate it, I wonder if I can get it back if I want to. I guess I could do that using a driver reinstall in recovery manager if needed.

Update: No, there is no listing for HP audio control in Settings/Apps just Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (just like in control panel/programs/programs and features). The only uninstall option is like in the first screen shot, when right clicking on it in the start menu. I have a feeling it will uninstall the whole driver but maybe not.. I guess I could try it.
