Windows 10: What happens if I use a flash drive to update my windows?

    I only have 48 gb worth of memory on my laptop. tried to delete anythin but no success to update my windows. but I see that i can use some flash drive or external storage etcBut..what happens if I use it? will it fill up the whole drive with the contents or what? do I have to keep it in my laptop for it to be updated?Plus, it is my mom's flash drive with some documents [too lazy to buy a flash drive myself]. and if ill update it this way, what will happen

    I understand the inconvenience you are facing in accessing the Flash drive on your computer. Do not worry we will help you with this issue.

    Do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

    • What exactly happens when you try to access the drive?
    • Were you able to see any error code/ error message with this issue?
    • What happens when you try to erase/ delete/ format the drive?
    • Is the desktop running on Windows 10 operating system?
    • How exactly are you trying to access the drive on your system?

    If you are connecting the drive through ports, I suggest you to connect to different ports and check if it helps.

    Also, as the drive was unable to be accessed on both the system, this might be an issue with the hard drive as well.

    Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

    Step 1: I suggest you to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

    Hardware and Devices troubleshooter checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

    • Press Windows key from the keyboard, type
      Troubleshooting and select it.
    • Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
      Troubleshooting window.
    • Select the Hardware and Device options from the list.
    • Click Next to run the Hardware and Device
      Troubleshooter.

    Step 2: I recommend you to install all the pending updates on your device and check if it helps.

    Steps:

    • Connect to the internet.
    • Press Windows key and type updates.
    • Click on Check for updates.
    • Under Windows Updates, click on Check for updates.
    • Try to install the updates being shown.

    Flash Drive/ Windows update/ ??????????

    Okay, so I really wanted to get this update for my windows computer and it said that I didn't have
    enough storage... sooo I couldn't wait any longer... It said I could pick a flash drive
    that has enough storage. I pick the flash drive. it did the download, but I'm still not 100% sure that I'm able to take the flash drive out of my computer...


    • Am I able to take the flash drive out?
    • Is there a way that I can switch the flash drives out and download it onto a smaller flash drive?
    • PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! I'm too scared that something will happen to my new computer :0

    USB Drive no longer recognized by Windows 10 since last update

    As per the description I understand that you are unable to backup Quicken files on the USB flash drive after the latest update.

    Do let us know the following to understand the issue and assist you better:

    • Which was the latest update had been installed on your device?
    • Is the flash drive detected on your operating system?
    • What are the troubleshooting steps you have performed while trying to resolve this issue?
    • Is the flash drive being detected on any other device?

    As a workaround, I suggest you to connect the flash drive to different USB ports and check if it is detected.

    Step 1: I suggest you to Run Hardware troubleshooter as it will help in resolving the issues with hardware and resolve any simple issues found.


    • Press Windows
      key from the keyboard, type Troubleshooting and select it.
