Windows 10: What happens to my Windows license when I switch to a new computer ?

On my current circa 2011 PC, i have Windows 10 which I freely upgraded from a previous Windows 8 64 bit, which I installed myself (System Builder license).

I want to finally buy a new computer, as my old one is having issues, but I would like to keep the Windows license if possible.


The original Windows 8 License is here, it clearly allowed for personal use, and transfer to new computers:

It says:

How can I use the software? We do not sell our software or your copy of it – we only license it. Under our license, we grant you the right to install and run that one copy on one computer (the licensed computer) as the operating system on a computer that you build for your personal use, or as an additional operating system running on a local virtual machine or a separate partition

And further on:

Can I transfer the software to another computer or user? You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software (together with the license) to a computer owned by someone else if a) you are the first licensed user of the software and b) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. To make that transfer, you must transfer the original media, the certificate of authenticity, the product key and the proof of purchase directly to that other person, without retaining any copies of the software. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Anytime you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the prior computer.

So my question is: do I have the same rights over my upgraded Windows 10 ? And if not, can I uninstall Windows 10, and reuse my Windows 8.

My Windows License is listed on my account page tied to my laptop. It gives me the option to Remove the PC. Will this realease the license to be reappliedt omy new computer.

How to transfer windows 10 license to a new computer?

If its the free upgrade originated from an OEM Windows 7 or Windows 8 preinstalled license, it is still not transferrable, even though it says its retail in the command line using slmgr.vbs /dlv command.

Only licenses upgraded from a retail Windows 8 or Windows 7 or full Windows 10 license.
