    What happens when I remotely lock a stolen Windows machine?


    Hi,My daughter's machine was stolen 3 days ago when she travelled. I just asked her to login https://account.microsoft.com/devices with her account, and click "Lock" for the device right away. Her pin has only 4 digits. What if the thief correctly guesses the pin? Will her "Lock" action be good enough to block the thief from entering her Windows in the future assuming the thief has not entered the Windows yet?The machine's "current location" is still the apartment where she has stayed since the machine was stolen. Am I right that the "current location" situation only indicates tha

    Emergency! Stolen Windows 10 laptop...can I remotely lock/wipe?

    My brothers 10 year old laptop had Windows 10 installed. Was stolen last night. Can I remotely lock and/or wipe in case the thieves connect to the internet. The Laptop is not locked and is auto sign-in.

    Sounds like you are the recipient of stolen goods. All of our work laptops have this feature where it locks the BIOS and hard disk remotely if stolen, misplaced, or after a certain number of failed access attempts to the data on the disk without the TPM key.

    I would suggest returning it to wherever you bought or got it.

    Can I log into my account and remotely lock/erase that laptop?
