Windows 10: What happens when VM Windows expires?

This question might be obvious to some people, but I've only had 11 days experience with a VM. I created the VM with a downloaded build 10586 ISO, and I was wondering about W10 expiring in less than 3 weeks. Will I be able to make a new VM with a new trial period, or will I be out of luck in 3 weeks?

You can run slrgmg.vbs -rearm and reset your counter. Can do that 3 times. After that,, you can just reinstall the OS. That will work fine.

 

A small typo there, the command should be slmgr.vbs -rearm.

 

I didn't think Windows 10 build 10586 had an expiration date. Where did this expiration date suddenly come from? Run winver and slmgr /dlv, neither of those should show an expiration date for build 10586 of Home or Pro.

 

You are now talking about apples when OP is talking about oranges: The OP's question is not about traditional build expiration as we have seen in some of the previous Insider builds, but instead about the functionality of a non-activated Windows 10. It will "expire", starting to show "Activate Windows" watermark only after a few days, then losing the full functionality after 30 days.

 

Yes, that's exactly what I was talking about. I consider my VM disposable, since I only use it to make sure that new software won't cause problems, and it might be easier to start from scratch than to try to solve certain problems.

 

You could consider the enterprise evaluation next time - you get 90 days instead of 30 (and this can also be rearmed).
