What host or IP does Windows Update connect to when updating?

If I knew that I could block that address to prevent updates ... until such time as I deem them permissible.

Unabe to connect to internet using IE, or connect to microsoft store

Here is what is in my host file, I see nothing concerning the issue.

    # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.

    #

    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

    #

    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

    # space.

    #

    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

    #

    # For example:

    #

    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.

    # 127.0.0.1 localhost

    # ::1 localhost

and this is what is tells me when I run the app windows updating troubleshooting.

service registration missing or corrupt--- not fixed.

  3. Microsoft edge, Microsoft Store and other microsoft apps are not working

    Hello,

The 0x80072EE7 error code may occur if the client computer cannot find the correct IP address when it tries to resolve a URL for the Windows Update Web site or for the Microsoft Update Web site. This error may occur if the Hosts file contains a static IP
    address.

To resolve this error, examine the Hosts file. (This file may also be named Hosts.sam.) Make sure that the file does not list any static IP entries for the Windows Update Web site or for the Microsoft Update Web site.

The Hosts file is located in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder. To view the Hosts file, you may have to associate the file with Notepad. To do this, follow these steps:

    • Right-click the Hosts file.
    • Click Open With, and then select Notepad from the list of programs.
If the Hosts file contains a static IP address that is associated with Windows Update or with Microsoft Update, comment the entry by adding the # sign at the beginning of the entry. You can also delete the whole line and save changes to the Hosts file.

Note Programs, such as Web accelerators, DNS accelerators, DNS caching utilities, and Spyblockers, can add static IP entries for the Windows Update Web site or for the Microsoft Update Web site to your Hosts file. This scenario
can cause Windows Update or Microsoft Update to fail.

Feel free to update us with the results.

  5. With regard to updates, Windows 10 is variable across versions.
I have Home, which behaves differently than Pro.
The update "on/off switch" has been commandeered by Microsoft. And they're not giving it back.

So I will create my own update switch in the form of a router/firewall rule.
Before I can block the Update service I just need to know where it goes to get those updates.

If you block updates then your system may not be secure as a lot of updates are to enhance security with all the ransomware going on you may put yourself at risk
