  1. What is bootTel.dat used for? A weird file on my C:\ drive

On my C:\ drive, I have one system protected + hidden file called bootTel.dat. Surprisingly, Windows lets me rename or delete the file, and if I look at the 'Security' tab, I see Everyone has full permissions against this file. Which means, I can just right click and delete it. Though, there's only 1 group, which is called 'Everyone', and it has Full Control. Which is very weird. The size of this file is 112 bytes, which is very tiny, and the size on disk is 0 bytes. This file appeared right after the most recent chkdsk scan scheduled automatically by Windows during boot. Another thing I have

    Associate .dat files to NotePad

    Hi Rick

Right click a dat file, choose 'Open With' - Choose Another App

Important - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open dat . . .'

If Notepad is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Again if Notepad is not in the list, at the bottom, click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to find the Notepad application in C:\Windows\System32

need some help opening a .dat file.....

I don't know if will help, but I noticed in a thread someone (@chefsuccess.com) mentioned, that, you need to use the restore to import the file.

I don't use the software, so, I have no idea on the steps/procedure.
