    What is contained in the Wim2 folder on a Discovery Drive?


    First question. When the user makes a Recovery Drive the Sources folder contains both a Wim and a Wim2 image. The Wim2 is about 200mb on my Recovery Drive. Does this contain files from my specfic system like the drivers currently installed, settings, fonts and such? What specifically is there? I am trying to learn how to advise users on the advantages of a recovery drive over a simple Windows 10 installation disk. If an RD is customized to the computer then I would like to learn how. It looks to me that an RD is a portable recovery partition, obviating the need for one on the hard drive (which is usually not useful anyway since it probably is for a previous OS). Which is no doubt why the RD creation tool can offer to remove it.

    Second question. I see that DiskPart is included in an RD for removing the recovery partition on the hard drive. Does it also expand the primary partition to include the unallocated space left by removal of the recovery partition?

    What is the WINTEMP folder in the USERS folder?

    Thank you for your reply but I have resolved the mystery. The WINTEMP folder was created during the relocation of the USERS folder. It has the Environment Variables pointing to the TEMP sub-folder.

    What is the WINTEMP folder in the USERS folder?

    I have relocated the users folder to another drive and now I have a folder called "WINTEMP" appearing under the newly relocated users. Should it be there, if not is it safe to delete it?

    I am running Win 10 x64

    Windows 10 creates Recovery Media from the files in the WINSXS folder.. (Reconstruct.wim)

    There is a possibility that you also have a Recovery Folder hidden on C:

    Inside that folder is a .ppkg file - that file may contain Apps or Drivers, that are system specific..

    this .ppkg file is also written into the Recovery media - and may be the second .wim file..

    in the old days you would have an install.wim (Base.wim) and a custom.wim

    Thanks, that's helpful. I am just framing replies to users on the advangtages over just a Windows installation disk. It's a portable customizible, recovery partition and I am collecting info on just what that means to a user.

    windows 10 recovery = a windows 10 OS recovery only....

    Unless a provisioning .ppkg is created that contains the additional Apps (User Programs) and System Drivers..
