    What is DLL host service and how do i stop it from running?


    Recently i have found this program runs everytime i boot my pc and when i end the task it starts up again. I tried opening the file location and this is where its located, apparently if this program is not in the System32 folder its a virus but i wasnt really sure. Heres the program in the task manager and the file location.

    service host: local service

    Hi Richard I'm Peter an independent advisor, I would suggest disabling the superfetch service:

    Press Windows Logo key + R to open a Run

    Type services.msc into the Run dialog and press Enter.

    Scroll down the list of services on your computer and locate the service named Superfetch.

    Double-click on Superfetch to edit its settings.

    Click on Stop to stop the service.

    Set the Startup type for Superfetch to Disabled.

    Click on Apply and then on OK

    Service host: local service with 3 subtasks - running 25-30% cpu

    Hi - Thanks for your suggestion

    Two Windows defender services are shown in the list

    • Windows Defender Antivirus Service
    • Windows Defender Security Centre Service
    Neither have the option to stop enabled (both greyed out) - one example :

    The windows firewall service

    Posted a message saying it could not be stopped (regretfully I did not take a picture) and on second attempt shows that it did not respond in time

    but shows a status of "Stopping" ... maybe it will after a few hours (seems to be how the system is running with tasks appearing to loop) - I will let you know!

    Browser /connection security, hosts file and DNS service

    You're saying that Open DNS(and other services like it) house their own list of known 'bad' sites, and by using their DNS servers, it will filter out sites based on that list?

    Would you believe I was already using Open DNS servers.
    This means the hosts file is moot?

    And furthering that, if there's any bespoke sites I want to manually add, I could do it through my router directly.

    Thus I can empty my local hosts file and turn my DNS service back on?
