Windows 10: What is Error 0X80070780

I'm trying to copy quite a few files from one hard drive to another.... neither one is the C Drive .... their both internal secondary drives. I Keep randomly getting " Can't access the files due to Error 0x80070780 " I've tried researching it, and can't seem to get to the bottom of it. Tried checking it for errors via windows built in tool via the Properties. Can't figure out or if its possible to run SFC /Scannow on a disk that's not C Drive. Any suggestions on free software to run to check for any errors?

Please execute Chkdsk X: /r command. Replace X: drive letter with drive letter of where files are stored.

Also check and see if you have full permission for the folder where files are stored.

 

Copy that... what does the "r" in that command do

 

The definition for 0x00000780 = ERROR_CANT_ACCESS_FILE = The file cannot be accessed by the system.

 

So I'm getting the error trying to copy, but not while opening them

 

/r checks for and repairs bad sectors and can take a long time depending on the size and state of the disk.

 

Run it without the /r first, see if that's enough to resolve the problem.

 

Which chkdsk command was ran?

Only chkdsk?
chkdsk /scan?
chkdsk /f?
chkdsk /spotfix?
chkdsk /x /r?
chkdsk /x /f /r?

Use the information in this link to find the chkdsk report in the event viewer. Then copy the report and paste into notepad > save to desktop > post into the thread using a one drive or drop box share link:

Dropbox - Notepad


So I created the dropbox link with the two chck disks. The second one was ran with /r

I did somewhat isolate the corrupted area. Turns out I can't open all the ones that I thought that I could. I tried to open a couple of .CR2 files in photshop, and they came up as "not the right kind of document" even tho Now the good news.... i'm a firm advocate of backing up. I checked in Carbonite and I'm able to download the files again.... ( over time since it's over 100GB's of files)

But what I want to know is the drive safe for future. Also... I have Dropbox installed on this drive ... and I'm not a fan of Dropbox, I much prefer Google Drive... it's soo much simpler to reinstall the sync software than dropbox in my opinion and experience. Dropbox seemed to install 3 links to the same folder buried... very weird. I'm wondering if somehow it corrupted itself cuz it seems that the corrupted files are only in the dropbox folder on that drive.



I know I'm not explaining that nearly as clear as I should but as best I could. I'm thinking that might lie in what happened? I'm not sure. And to further support my idea, the folders that I have synced are copied in each of those folders
