Windows 10: What is New in Microsoft Teams for August 2020

In August, we saw updates in Microsoft Teams that continue to improve the meetings experience and new features that provide developers a rich canvas to build workflows to enhance personal productivity. We are excited to share new features this month across meetings, calling, devices, chat and collaboration, IT admin, and industry. Check out our new capabilities below.

Whatâs New: Meetings & Calling & Devices

We are continuing to transform the meetings experience in Teams to include new features, settings, and devices to create a better experience.

Spotlight
Meeting organizers and presenters will be able to lock their video as the main view for all meeting participants. This helps the presenter control the main video feed that a participant sees during the meeting. This is different from âPin participantâ, which allows an individual to pin a video feed for their own view but not for the view of all meeting participants. Spotlight will be available in the next few months.

Meeting recording storage for areas where Stream is not available
Teams meeting recordings are currently disabled for customers whose Teams data is stored in-country, if Microsoft Stream is not available in that country. A new admin setting will allow you to turn on meeting recordings if Microsoft Stream data residency is not yet in country. If this setting is turned on, Teams meeting recordings will be saved in the data center closest to the region.

Optimized Microsoft Teams Experience Now Available on VMware Horizon 8
With growing demand for collaboration tools to support remote workers, VMWare Horizon 8 now offers enhanced audio and video experience for Microsoft Teams. The optimization pack helps provide better user experience and improved productivity for those leveraging Microsoft Teams across Horizon virtual desktop (VDI) and published application environments.

Call Merge
Call Merge gives you the capability to merge several calls into a 1-1 call or another group call. This applies to Teams VOIP calls and PSTN calls.

New Teams devices to enhance collaboration and meetings
The Windows collaboration display by Avocor is the worldâs first and only Windows collaboration display certified for both Microsoft Teams and Azure. Featuring an advanced interactive display, natural inking and innovative IoT sensor technologies, the AVW-6555 is designed to enhance collaboration and accelerate teamwork. Real time presence
Stay focused throughout the day with Microsoft Teams. Whether you are free for a quick chat or presenting in a meeting, real time presence increases the accuracy of your status so others know when to reach out.

Easily access and manage Visio files in Microsoft Teams

Visio tabs in Teams allow team members to quickly access content in a dedicated space within a channel or in a chat. Adding a tab in Teams is available to all Teams users, editing, however is only available for those with a Visio Plan 1 or Plan 2 subscription. Weâre also releasing an enhanced set of multi-page operations in Visio for web, enabling you to view all the pages at once, reorder pages with drag and drop, insert pages at any position in the file, duplicate existing pages on a single click, and navigate non-sequential pages using the keyboard arrows.

Whatâs New: IT Admin

Changes in Incoming IP Video policy
We are updating our meeting policies to allow IT administrators more control over how video is managed in Teams Meetings. Current policy can only be set to prevent outgoing video. We are extending the Allow IP Video policy to prevent both outgoing and incoming video as needed. Tenant administrators can use this policy to manage bandwidth; This item has been updated to reflect changes to the original plan.

Skype for Business Online connector consolidating to Teams module
We are simplifying the Teams administration experience with a single PowerShell module that includes complete management capabilities for Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business Online, by introducing full functionality of Skype for Business Online Connector into the Teams Module.

This means that Skype for Business Online Connector in the Skype for Business Online PowerShell, which has been a separate product that contains many cmdlets needed to manage Microsoft Teams, now has been consolidated into a single PowerShell module.

Whatâs New: Developer & Platform

We are announcing new features to the Teams platform to continue to provide a rich canvas for developers to build, engage, and transform workflows.

Teams App Submission API
We are excited to announce that the Teams App Submission API is now generally available. This new Graph API allows all users at any organization to develop on the platform of their choice and submit their apps into Teams with zero friction. In turn, relieving the burden of discovering, approving, packaging, and deploying these apps by IT.

Graph Resource Specific Consent
Your Teams app can now call Teams Graph APIs from the BETA endpoint without needing admin consent. These APIs include creating, renaming, and deleting channels, reading channel messages, creating tabs, and adding/removing members from Teams. This capability will empower Team owners to install an app for their specific team and restrict the appâs scope and access to data to only that one team. This allows team owners to make decisions versus needing the global IT admin to provision access.

Support for native mobile device camera and location capabilities for tabs
Support for native mobile device capabilities for Teams apps using tabs is now generally available! Developers, including those building Teams apps through Power Apps, will be able to use device permissions to build richer experiences, such as capturing images through the camera or providing GPS coordinates. This experience had been supported for the Teams desktop client and is being introduced to the Teams mobile app via new APIs.

New Power Automate triggers for Teams
Power Automate is adding two new Teams triggers allowing you to simplify even more of your work. Now, using the âfor a selected messageâ trigger, Teams users can create customized message actions to start a process directly from a message â for example, a chat about a customer can easily be used to automatically create a Sales opportunity in Dynamics. Additionally, when a team member is removed from a team, specific actions can be set in motion â for example, sending a message to the team owner.

New Power Automate actions for Teams
Power Automate is adding two new Teams actions. You can create a flow to automatically create a team, greatly simplifying the admin work of setting up teams. Flow builders can also automatically @mention a specific user when they incorporate this action into their flows, so they can be sure that important messages are seen by their intended recipients.

Whatâs New: Teams for Education

New expanded capabilities in Education Insights
Insights in Microsoft Teams for Education now has a new view in public preview that allows administrators to monitor digital engagement from the student to the system level, and provides visibility into educator best practices in remote instruction. Itâs designed to ensure equity and continuity of teaching in a remote world and comply with regulations for digital engagement reporting with a one-click data export.

Whatâs New: Teams for US Government

We are here to support US Government clouds. Below are the new capabilities for the GCC, GCC High, and DOD environments.

New lobby setting: only the organizer joins the meeting directly for GCC
A new lobby setting is coming to Teams Meeting Options. We are adding "Only me" as an option to the "Who can bypass lobby?" setting. Once enabled, only the organizer will be able to join the meeting directly. Everyone else, including people from within the same organization, will be sent to the lobby.

New experience for launching instant channel meetings for GCC
Meet Now buttons in Teams channels will have a new home. You will soon find them in the Channel header where you can easily find and launch the meeting.

Improved Teams meeting join launcher experience for GCC
When you click on a Teams meeting join link, you will now see an optimized and improved join experience. You will be prompted with an option to join on the web, download the Teams client, or join with the native Teams client. This will result in faster and more confident meeting join.

New policy to prevent upload of profile picture for GCC, GCC High, and DoD
Teams desktop and web experiences will honor the Outlook on the Web mailbox policy setting that can control whether users are able change their profile pictures. This applies to GCC, GCC High, and DoD tenants.

What is new in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams in August 2020

As we gear up for our annual Ignite conference, I’m struck by how much we’ve learned these past few months—from our customers, from researchers and experts in every field, and from our own experiences at Microsoft navigating remote and hybrid work models. For all of us, these lessons extend to our home lives as well. Maybe you’re coordinating factory floor operations from a kitchen table hundreds of miles away or greeting your Grandpa on a video screen as he virtually attends a family picnic, it’s probably dawned on you that our world is changing in durable ways. As we work to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, we’re learning to embrace a heterogeneous future. Our mission is to enable people, teams, and organizations to thrive in this new world of remote and hybrid work and learning. Last month at Inspire, I shared how we’re working together with our partners to build new experiences for our customers designed to connect people, inspire creativity, and foster innovation. We’re committed as ever to develop technology that helps you keep moving forward, no matter if you’re fully remote or in a hybrid work environment. This month, we’re releasing new features in Microsoft Teams to help users automate more of their workflow, ideate on digital whiteboards more easily, help improve readability while browsing the web, and more.

Let’s take a deeper look at these updates and what else is new in August.  

Manage Tasks and more in Teams

New features to manage tasks, automate workflows, and streamline collaboration in Teams.

Stay on top of tasks without leaving Teams—Managing your tasks gets easier if you don’t have to flip between places to see them all. The new Tasks app in Teams provides a new unified view of tasks and assignments from across Microsoft To Do, Planner, and Outlook, helping you consolidate and prioritize your tasks. Along with a consolidated view of your tasks, we’ve also added a new List view with the ability to edit multiple tasks at once, Graph API and Power Automate integrations, and task publishing capabilities to come. The new experience is rolling out to desktop users now. To get started, add the “Planner” app (the name will later change to “Tasks”) to your Teams client or add it as a tab at the top of a Teams channel.

Simplify actions and alert teammates more easily with new Power Automate capabilities—We’re adding new actions and triggers to Power Automate in Teams to allow users to streamline their workflow. Using the new “create a team” action, you’ll be able to seamlessly spin up a new team as part of your business process—such as automatically creating a team site with members for a project you’re working on. Also, you can now use @mentions in your flows to make sure important messages reach the intended recipient.

We’ve also added two new triggers to Power Automate. Using the “for a selected message action” trigger, you can now create customized message actions to initiate critical business processes directly from a message—including converting a message in a chat into a Sales opportunity in Dynamics. Also, when a team member is removed from a team, specific actions can be set in motion—like notifying the team owner. To get started, open the “Flow” app in Microsoft Teams and start building a flow with these two new triggers.

Boost productivity with Microsoft Teams apps designed for remote work—In a remote and hybrid work environment, ensuring everyone is informed, aligned, and engaged can be difficult. We’ve created a new web page with a curated a list of apps for Microsoft Teams that can help improve collaboration and productivity. From managing marketing campaigns and building sales proposals to solving issues with automating responses and prioritizing tasks, these apps will help keep you connected and moving forward in a remote and hybrid world.

Access Visio directly from a tab within Teams channels—As part of our commitment to make collaborating on Visio diagrams within Teams seamless, we have added “Visio as a tab.” Visio tabs in Teams allow team members to quickly access content in a dedicated space within a channel or in a chat. Adding a tab in Teams is available to all Teams users (editing is only available for those with a Visio Plan 1 or Plan 2 subscription). This feature is now available.

Collaborate and organize your work more effectively

New features to help you collaborate more effectively in meetings, access and create Visio diagrams, and browse the web more productively.

Run effective meetings, brainstorm, and think creatively with updates to Whiteboard in Teams—Though many of us aren’t physically together these days, we all still need our brainstorming and creative thinking sessions. But this can be hard in a remote and hybrid work environment. We’ve added new features to Whiteboard in Teams to make it easier to keep the creative process moving forward virtually. Now, you can quickly add sticky notes to a canvas, making it easier to contribute if you’re using a device without a digital pen. We’ve also added the ability to move and re-order objects on the canvas through a simple drag and drop gesture. Finally, we’ve improved the performance, so Whiteboard is now faster than ever. Learn more about these new capabilities and other features in our Whiteboard Help section.

Improve readability and manage notes more effectively in Microsoft Edge—60% of the time people spend on the PC is within the web browser, and it has become the primary way we work, learn and play. That’s why it’s critical that your web browser enables your productivity and helps keep you safe. This month we’re releasing several new capabilities for Edge. First, Collections now allows you to export to OneNote. When you send to OneNote, all your collected content retains its formatting, so you get visual links and all your notes organized neatly.

We’re also bringing Picture Dictionary to Immersive Reader in Microsoft Edge. Picture Dictionary will provide a picture representation of a selected word on a web page to help increase comprehension. Get started by turning on the Picture Dictionary toggle in Reading Preferences.

Lastly, we’ve added 5 different highlighter colors, support for screen readers, and the ability to view and validate digital signatures to the built-in PDF reader.

Streamline user and app deployments

New capabilities and resources to help your IT departments streamline new roll outs.

Provision users to Azure AD from SAP SuccessFactors —With the integration between Azure AD and SAP SuccessFactors, you can now automate user access to applications and resources so that a new hire can be up and running with full access to the necessary applications on day one. The integration also helps you reduce dependencies on IT helpdesk for onboarding and offboarding tasks. Get started now by following our documentation.

Request help while deploying Microsoft 365 in your organization —Getting new tools deployed quickly and efficiently is critical to maintaining productivity. To help ensure we’re here for our customers, we’ve for requesting assistance from FastTrack for Microsoft 365. FastTrack is a benefit that comes with your Microsoft 365 subscription, at no additional cost, for customers with eligible plans of 150+ licenses. To get started, sign in and select “Request assistance from FastTrack for Microsoft 365.”

Quickly secure your Windows 10 PCs through a simplified security policy setup experience—With so many employees working remotely, it’s important to ensure their PCs are protected. We are rolling out a new setup experience within Microsoft 365 admin center that makes it easier for small and medium-sized businesses to deploy a lightweight security baseline policy for protecting their Windows 10 computers. This new experience will ensure their devices have the appropriate protections configured—such as encrypting hard drives with BitLocker or locking the screen when users walk away—and are better protected from unauthorized access and malicious threats like viruses and malware. This new policy applies to all ‎Windows 10‎ devices that are enrolled in ‎Microsoft Intune with a Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription plan‎.

Also new this month

The Visio Data Visualizer add-in for Excel is now generally available, providing a new way to create data-driven Visio diagrams directly in Excel.

Application Guard, which helps desktop users stay safer and more productive by opening Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files in a virtualized container, is now generally available.

What is new in Microsoft Teams Platform at Microsoft Build 2020

Today at Build, we’re excited to show you all the new features and capabilities that’ll enhance and streamline the end-to-end app development experience for developers and provide an engaging experience with end users.

Streamlining app development

Having the right set of tools and workflows available for building apps is important to our developers. We’re excited to announce some new tools, updates and capabilities to streamline app development.

Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code extension (preview)

With the new Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code extensions, you can use the power of these tools to build your Teams app quickly, with a simple interface that enables you to:

Configure features

Create app package manifest and setup hosting

Validate app package

Start app publishing process (for yourself, to your organization’s catalog, or to the Teams app store)

New Power Platform + Teams enhancements

We’re excited to introduce several new features enhancing the Power Platform + Teams integrations that are either available or coming soon. These features enable you to build low-code/no-code experiences with custom apps, workflows, bots, and dashboards for your team and customers.

Simplified Power Apps and Power Virtual Agents Add to Teams button, streamlining the addition of custom solutions to the Teams app store.

Enhanced workflow automation with Power Automate + Teams with new triggers and actions built specifically for Teams to unlock custom message extensions, allow for automated @mentioning, and provide a customized bot experience. New business process scenario templates will also be rolled out to jump start automation development.

Improved Power BI sharing to Teams with a new Share to Teams button in Power BI to easily share Power BI reports. You’ll also be able to copy individual charts in a Power BI report to a Teams conversation and have the chat include a rich thumbnail preview of the chart, as well as an adaptive card allowing users to take actions on that chart.

Low-code bots brought to Teams, with Power Virtual Agents, making it easier to create and manage low-code chatbots for Teams, to provide a streamlined experience for end users.

App Studio Update (v1.4.0)

App Studio for Microsoft Teams makes it easy to start creating or integrating your own Teams apps by streamlining the creation of the manifest and package for your app. With the latest update (v1.4.0), we’ve built some enhancements, including:

Support for app manifest schema 1.6.

An Advanced section in app details to easily support advanced features.

An app package validation tool to run tests that extend outside the basic schema validation. This is great for those looking to publish to Partner Center for pre-validation or having issues sideloading their app.

Better error handling via a bot framework connection with user guidance on how to perform the same actions in the bot framework web portal.

24 new granular permissions for the Teams Microsoft Graph APIs

These new APIs are available on the Microsoft Graph v1.0 endpoint and will give you more flexibility and granularity for app data access authorization. With granular permissions, developers and admins can now narrow the app’s access and scope to a specific team’s set of data, as opposed to all team data.

Mobile device capability for apps

Coming soon this year, you’ll be able to extend your app’s capabilities by connecting to native mobile device features, such as camera, location, and microphone. Seamlessly enable scenarios, such as having your bot support and manage expense reporting utilizing the mobile device’s camera.

New Microsoft Graph APIs in beta for subscribing to notifications for new app messages – in beta

Using the Microsoft Graph API, we’ve provided you some new APIs in beta that will provide you the ability to create subscriptions for different event types, such as new/edited/deleted messages, replies, reactions, as well as to all or specific channels and chat threads – allowing your apps to refresh when new content is available. These are great for development of data loss prevention (DLP) and safety apps. For more information about these subscription APIs that are in beta, see Create subscription (beta).

Activity feed notifications for apps – coming soon to beta

The new activity feed notifications via the Microsoft Graph API gives you a new and simpler way to send app notifications to users across devices. You’ll enjoy the ability to customize and control the notification experience – everything from the notification structure, to what is surfaced to the user after they click the notification.

New Microsoft Graph APIs in v1.0 – coming soon

We have some new Microsoft Graph APIs for Teams coming to the v1.0 endpoint that you’ll be able to explore soon.

Send channel messages API allows you to send channel messages and replies as well as include attachments.

primaryChannel API allows you to access to data without making assumptions about naming.

filesFolder API allows you to find the SharePoint folder for a channel without assuming the folder has the same name as the channel.

Shifts API enables a scheduling module in Teams to enable you to integrate existing or custom workforce management systems for scenarios such as auto-approvals for shift requests.

Seamless end-to-end app lifecycle experience

Building an app is just the beginning of the journey for app developers. A smooth process with business decision makers and IT admins is an essential part of that journey. We’re excited to announce that, coming soon, developers and admins will enjoy a streamlined custom app submission process and enhanced app management capabilities within the Teams Admin Center – providing a connected experience through the development, publishing and end user discovery process.

Streamlined app submission workflows

You will soon be able to submit Teams apps through any of these clients and trusted sources (App Studio, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, Power Apps, SharePoint Framework) via our App Submission Microsoft Graph API – streamlining the process of submitting apps directly to the Teams Admin Center for IT admins to review and approve.

New app management capabilities within the Teams Admin Center

Microsoft Teams provides a robust set of controls to help administrators confidently enable and manage apps in their Teams environment. We’re excited to announce several new capabilities that will soon be added to our existing controls to manage Teams apps.

The new Manage Apps view in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center will show all apps in your tenants – including app certification, approval status, and licensing status.

A new third party subscription purchase experience will enable IT admins to view and purchase subscriptions associated with the 3rd party Teams apps. Admins can purchase licenses and later pin the app to targeted employees right from within the Teams Admin Portal.

IT admins can improve app discoverability and adoption by creating custom templates for users to choose from when creating a team. Templates can include pre-defined channels, tabs, and apps so users can hit the ground running in Teams. By packaging relevant apps inside templates, IT admins can effectively surface them to the right members of the organization. Templates in Teams will be available in the next few months.

Admins will be able to grant consent to Microsoft Graph API permissions on behalf of the entire tenant for the permissions an app is requesting, such as reading information stored in a team or sending an email on behalf of users. They will also be able to see granular permissions and provide resource-specific consent with the ability to install an app to a specific team.

Drive a deeper user engagement

Take advantage of Azure Active Directory Single Sign-On (SSO) to eliminate need for re-signing into Teams apps

End users will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of Azure Active Directory Single Sign-On (SSO) for supported Teams apps on both desktop and mobile. After they’re signed into Teams, users won’t have to sign in again on apps that integrate with single sign-on for both desktop and mobile. Developers will also enjoy a simplified authentication process through a single API call. We’ll roll out with tabs in general availability soon, followed by bots later this year.

Azure Active Directory Conditional Access – coming soon

This capability will enable end users to run apps and tabs even if their IT admin has set up conditional access policies requiring the use of a trusted device. Website tabs on Windows that use Azure AD will automatically sign you in and support device-specific conditional access policies.

Resource-Specific Consent (RSC) – coming soon to preview

This capability will empower Team owners to install an app for their specific team and restrict the app’s scope and access to data to only that one team. This allows team owners to make decisions versus needing the global IT admin to provision access.

Experience attempting to access an app without RSC to having RSC enabled

Pop-out apps, channel tabs, and chat tabs – coming later this year

Coming soon this year, end users will be able to ‘pop-out’ personal apps and tabs* (channels and chats). Users will be able to open separate windows for their apps so they can work while easily accessing their team chats to continue to collaborate. Simply right-click on an app to see the option to pop out or visit a tab and find the pop-out icon in the top right.

*Not all tabs supported at time of launch

More powerful cards inside bots and connectors in Teams

Develop a richer and more customizable experience using Adaptive Cards 1.2 in Teams on desktop and mobile. Highly requested features such as @mentions support within cards, allow the ability to direct a user’s attention to cards that are relevant to them – providing you an enhanced notification and engagement capability for your app. RichText Blocks allow you greater flexibility in designing the look and feel of the cards. These are available in general availability and ready for you to explore today.

Messaging actions for mobile – coming soon

We are excited to announce that message action support for mobile will be coming soon to preview. Message actions can be triggered directly from a message and can be used to enable scenarios such as creating tasks or work items following a discussion within a chat or channel.

Personal apps available on mobile – coming soon for preview

Personal apps are Teams applications focusing on interactions with a single user, such as 1:1 Conversational bots or personal tabs. These types of apps are already available for desktop and web and will be available for mobile – coming soon for preview.

What’s New: Meetings, Calling, and Devices

Improved meeting join launcher experience

When launching a Teams meeting from a link, you will be provided with clearer options for how to join the meeting. You will be prompted with an option to join on the web, download the Teams client, or join with the native Teams client. We are gradually rolling this out over the coming weeks, and in the interim, you may continue to see this and the former experience.

Easily access meeting options during a Teams meeting

We are making it easier for meeting organizers to quickly and easily change their presenter and lobby settings once a meeting has started by providing a link directly in the participants pane. This new functionality is available for both scheduled and “Meet Now” meetings.

Download a participant report in a Teams meeting

Meeting organizers, especially teachers, often need to know who joined their Teams meetings. You can download a participant report, found in the roster view that includes join and leave times for participants. Available in the roster view, meeting organizers can download the report that includes those users who joined while the organizer was present. This feature is only available within the meeting while the meeting is active. Available on desktop (Windows and Mac) and the web.

Set tenant-wide default selection for "Who Can Present" in meetings

Tenant admins can now update their Teams meeting policies to allow for a new default selection when choosing who can present in new Teams meetings (everyone, people in my organization, specific people, or only me). Today, the default selection is “everyone” unless the meeting organizer selects otherwise through the meetings option configuration. To start, organizations can set this policy via a PowerShell cmdlet, and soon after we will have this policy configurable in the Admin portal.

Set background effects policy at a user-level

Tenant admins can soon assign a user-level policy to control how users engage with background effects in Teams meetings. Options include: offer no filters; background blur only; use background blur and default provided images; and all, which includes the ability for users to upload their own custom images.

Better policy controls over screen sharing from chats

Screen share from chat allows you to immediately start sharing your screen in a 1-1 chat or group chat. This entry point was previously governed by the AllowPrivateCalling policy. If this policy is disabled, users are not able to screen share from chat. The option to start a screen share from chat will now be governed by the ScreenSharingMode policy. Further, the ability to "add audio" to a screen share from chat session (if you want to talk to someone while screen sharing) will be governed by a user's AllowPrivateCalling setting. This ensures that users who have AllowPrivateCalling disabled cannot start audio calls via screen share from chat.

Teams and Skype Interoperability

Teams and Skype interoperability will enable collaboration with more partners, customers, and suppliers who rely upon Skype for Consumer (SFC) as their communication app. On either platform, customers will be able to discover users via email search, then chat or call using audio/video. Clients supported include Desktop, Web and Mobile (iOS/Android). Admins will be able to control user access to this feature from The Teams Admin Center.

Reverse Number Lookup (RNL) Enhancements

In the past, the caller name sometimes did not show when they called you. Back in October 2019 we released the feature to make it easier to identify the caller. With the latest enhancements to RNL, the Telco display name will now also show up in your Activity Feed, Call History, and Voicemail as well.

Microsoft Teams Rooms, app version 4.4.41.0 now available

While physical meeting rooms may not be a focal point for many right now, there are still organizations and industries whose essential workers continue to rely on these spaces during this time. We also recognize the vital role Microsoft Teams Rooms will play when organizations return to work. The latest update, app version 4.4.41.0, is now available on the Windows store and is coming to every Teams room over the next few weeks. New features include: Modern authentication support, New application splash screen, Ability to project content to a single display when using a HDMI cable in a dual display configuration, Support for dynamic emergency calling, and more. Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code Extension for Teams

Developers can use the new Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code Teams extension to quickly build project scaffolding, configure features, create app package manifest and setup hosting, validate app package manifest, and start the app publishing process (for yourself, to your organization’s catalog, or to the Teams app store). Visual Studio Code extension is available in public preview today. Visual Studio extension coming soon!

Bringing low-code bots to Teams, with Power Virtual Agents

We are working with the newest component of the Power Platform – Power Virtual Agents, which is a low-code chatbot platform. New features will make it easier to create and manage low-code chatbots from within Teams and more streamlined for end users to use Power Virtual Agents bots in Teams. These new features are:

Bot Template: FAQ bot template available in GitHub

Single sign-on: Power Virtual Agents bots will be available, removing the need for users to sign in again when using a Power Virtual Agents bot in Teams

Simplified Power Apps and Power Virtual Agents “Add to Teams”

Coming soon, Power Apps makers will be able to click a single “Add to Teams” button in Power Apps, which will push the app to the Teams app store. Similarly, the process of adding low-code bots from Power Virtual Agents will be simplified, so developers can spend more time building and less time deploying.

Enhanced workflow automation with Power Automate + Teams

There are several new Power Automate triggers and actions built specifically for Teams to unlock custom message extensions, allow for automated @mentioning, and provide a customized bot experience. To make the process of building automation even easier, we are also rolling out new business process scenario templates built for Teams. When users create a new flow, they will see these templates when they select the “Create from Template option.”

Improved Power BI sharing to Teams

We have made it even easier to share Power BI reports to Teams – simply select the report to share and click the new “Share to Teams” button in Power BI. You’ll be prompted to select the user or channel to send the report to, which will automatically be posted to the conversation.

Users can now also copy individual charts in a Power BI report, and when they are pasted to a Teams conversation, the chat will include a rich thumbnail preview of the chart, as well as an adaptive card allowing users to take actions on that chart.

What’s New: Education

Change in meeting join experience for our education customers

Today, we allow anyone within an organization to start a Teams meeting, regardless if they are the meeting organizer or not. Moving forward, we will restrict the ability to start a meeting to only those users who have been assigned a policy to create a meeting within their organization. Meeting attendees without the ability to create a meeting will see a pre-join screen indicating that the meeting hasn't started. These individuals will be automatically admitted into the meeting once a user with permissions joins and starts the meeting. For example, where teachers are assigned a policy that enables them to create meetings, but students are not: if a student clicks on a Teams meeting not yet started by a teacher, they will be admitted into the meeting once a teacher has started a meeting.

In-line message translation in GCC and GCC High

In-line message translation will ensure that every worker in the team has a voice and facilitate global collaboration. With a simple click, people who speak different languages can fluidly communicate with one another by translating posts in channels and chat. This is now generally available.
