Windows 10: What is Sort Utility and why does it eat up 99% of my GPU?

I have Windows 11 for almost a year now and before I didn't have any issues until I noticed performance issues when it comes apps that uses my GPU like games. So I checked my processes on what is eating up my GPU process and that is when I noticed an application running called Sort Utility. At first I thought it was a virus so I tried deleting it but I wasn't allowed to so when I checked the application, its apparently a Microsoft application but its still weird that its eating up alot of my GPU for a Microsoft application so I scanned but didn't find any virus.Sort Utility also randomly opens

I suggest the 5530 then as it can be found new for £99. It's one of nokia's cheapest new smartphones and will do the sorting you require. If you aren't happy at that model please list the nokia's that you like and we'll tell you if they are suitable.

 

Perfcap Util, while gaming (gpu @ 99% util). Game becomes unplayable.

I've had some problem with my graphics card gtx 670 for some time now. After approx 30 min (can be more or a little less) Gpu-Z reports perfcap util WHILE I'm gaming with GPU core at 99% util (TDP is never near 100%). I'm aware of what perfcap util means, but I can't figure out why I'm getting it while playing. Sometimes the core mhz is lowered with 100-200 mhz, but not always, sometimes it's left at ~1150 mhz. But what happens always when this happens is that the game becomes very laggy (unplayable), like 10 fps, and the GPU core util goes down to 40-50%. If I restart the game the util goes up to 99% again.

The funny thing is that I've experienced this behavior both with my current gtx 670 as well as with my old gtx 570 (so I've had this problem for quite some time). So I'm beginning to suspect that there's some fault with my motherboard or power supply. Especially the motherboard (X58 chip) is rather old.

I've changed to max performance in Windows 10's power settings and in Nvidia power management settings.
I've analysed the GPU-Z log and temp is not high when this happens (60-70), and CPU (core I7) is only at ~30-40%. The gpu is running at standard core/vcore, etc.

I always get the perfcap util message (16) (not any other perfcap message). Can a faulty power supply be the cause of this. Or should I begin troubleshooting my motherboard? Or do you have any other suggestions?

My system is otherwise very stable, so no other indications of problem with the power supply (Corsair 850w).

When you say 'update to Windows 10 stalling at 99%' are you referring to upgrade to Windows 10 is stuck or unable to update Windows to different builds?

• Restart the system and check if the issue is resolved.
