    I need to get an old Window key off my previous HDD. What is the best program to do this? I changed my HDD to an SSD, and changed to a different mobo so it deactivated my windows and the activation didnt change other despite being tied to my account

    Need some help. Old HDD. New laptop.

    Yes, that would be a favorable solution if possible. But it requires what I said as a first step. Once he gets booted into the OS, then he can either use it as is or try to recover the product key. I'm not saying he couldn't do what you said, I was replying to another post that suggested simply copy/pasting documents from the old hard drive.

    Why did the startup window get cleared?

    I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.
