Windows 10: What is the best way to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 AND change the install drive?

I have a rig that's slowly grown over the last few years that I'd like to get a fresh start on. It started with a 2nd gen I7 and GTX660 with 7200RPM HDD, and ahs incrementally carried me across a motherboard swap to a proper gaming rig, now an AMD R7 5800x, RTX 3070, and SSDs! Very Ship of Theseus here, I suppose. As it is, I'm unable to upgrade to Windows 11 because TPM cannot be enabled. The motherboard supports it - but my OS on a SATA SSD currently only runs when BIOS OS settings are in Legacy mode. not sure why on this, if I set the Motherboard to UEFI the boot drive is not detected.I

Windows 10 upgrade rant..

The free space shouldn't prevent you from upgrading to built 1607. I manually upgraded my own laptop which had only 9gigs free space left on the system drive.

I unzipped the Windows 10 Pro anniversary edition ISO on my D drive, and started the upgrade process from there. At one point the installer complained about not having enough free space on the main drive, i just had to point it to the D drive to proceed to the next step. Now the rollback installation is stored there and doesn't clog up the C drive anymore.

In your case you could insert a large sdcard to act as the required rollback drive, i'm pretty sure it would do the trick.

Oh and by the way, if you want to further compress your System files:

• do a search Command Prompt, right-click it, and select Run as administrator.
• Type COMPACT.EXE /CompactOS:always and hit Enter.

You'll will gain anything from 2 to 4 gigs free space after it's done.

 

Can I still upgrade to Windows 11 if I change the storage drive, CPU, and motherboard?

My PC does not meet the minimum requirements to upgrade to Windows 11 (Pro). In order to accommodate this upgrade I've bought a new storage drive, CPU, and motherboard. The new drive is much faster than the other drives, so I'd like to use it to store Windows instead of the original drive.

• Is it possible to immediately activate Windows 11 after I install it on the new drive using an installation disk?
  
• In case activation isn't possible because I don't own Windows 11 yet, would it work if I installed Windows 10 first and then upgraded to Windows 11 instead?
  
• Or would it not activate either copy of Windows 10 or 11 because my PC isn't recognized as the original due to the changed parts?
  

I would very much appreciate any help or suggestions.
